The New Dominion Magazine wins two VPA awards

The New Dominion Magazine won two awards in the 2009 News Contest sponsored by the Virginia Press Association. The awards were presented Saturday night in Roanoke at the VPA’s News Conference and Annual Meeting.
The New Dominion Magazine competes in the crowded specialty-publications division, which includes a total of 38 publications with circulation bases ranging from a few thousand to several hundred thousand per issue.
The ND won a second-place award among specialty publications in the special-sections category for its real-estate section. The spotlight award for the magazine was the third place in design and presentation, a category encompassing the editorial content, the quality of the photography and the design and layout of the magazine. Maybe a law was broken in registrar e-mail exchange
An AFP reader might have a point regarding a possible violation of laws in a discussion between the former voter registrar in Waynesboro and a candidate for the appointment to the post.
“Providing information about the manner in which a specific vote is cast, or any information regarding an individual’s votes, is ABSOLUTELY illegal – no questions asked,:” reader Donna Kent noted in a comment posted to the AFP site on Thursday on a comment thread for our Online Extra on the e-mail exchanges between former Waynesboro registrar Mary Alice Downs and the current registrar, Lisa Wooten. New Dominion honored by Virginia Press Association
The New Dominion Magazine won three awards for journalistic excellence in its first year of eligibility in the prestigious Virginia Press Association News Contest. The awards were announced Saturday at the Association’s annual conference in Norfolk.
The competition was fierce in the top category for nondaily newspapers and magazines, whose 45 publications include Virginia Living, Virginia Business, Style Weekly and the Washington Business Journal. The New Dominion took home top honors in this grouping in Public Affairs Writing for a story in the Spring 2008 edition by editor Chris Graham entitled “The Senior Boom,” which examined issues faced locally related to our growing senior population. AFP, ND editor named GM of Waynesboro Generals
The Waynesboro Generals are announcing today that Chris Graham of Waynesboro has been named the team’s new general manager.
Graham, 36, is the co-owner of Augusta Free Press Publishing in Downtown Waynesboro and the editor of The New Dominion monthly print magazine and Augusta Free Press Online based in Waynesboro.
