RMH certified as Advanced Primary Stroke Center
The RMH stroke care program has received national certification from The Joint Commission, indicating that the program meets rigorous standards of care for those experiencing stroke.
The Joint Commission granted RMH Advanced Primary Stroke Center certification following an extensive on-site evaluation March 14. The Joint Commission surveyors examined every facet of RMH’s stroke program to ensure it provides effective, timely care for stroke victims while significantly improving outcomes. Read more
Work to begin on Stone Spring Road Crossover at RMH
Work will begin soon on a crossover between the northbound and southbound lanes of Stone Spring Road where the northbound lane provides access to and from the RMH health campus.
The crossover will provide access between the campus and southbound Stone Spring Road. Currently, motorists can enter and exit the campus at northbound Stone Spring Road but cannot cross over to or from the southbound lane, explained Dennis Coffman, director, Facilities Planning and Development. Lizotte elected president of national physician assistant organization
David Lizotte, lead physician assistant for RMH cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, has been elected president of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiovascular Surgery (APACVS).
Lizotte was part of the team that helped establish the RMH cardiothoracic surgery program in 2008, allowing members of the community to receive 24-hour, life-saving cardiac care close to home. Read more
Strong Families/Great Youth Coalition awarded $121K grant to reduce alcohol-related crashes
The Strong Families/Great Youth Coalition has been awarded a Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant. The $121,150 grant is to be used by the Health Education and Awareness program, part of RMH Community Health, to focus on decreasing alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes in Rockingham County among 15-24 year olds. RMH to present free colon health seminar March 21
RMH will present a free seminar, “Keep Your Colon Healthy,” from 6-8 p.m. March 21 in the hospital’s lower level conference rooms.
RMH medical experts will address colon health and colon cancer prevention, particularly the importance of a colonoscopy screening. Read more
HealthGrades ranks RMH among best in nation
HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare quality ratings company, has named RMH a recipient of the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award for 2012, ranking RMH among the top 10 percent of the nation’s hospitals.
HealthGrades has also ranked RMH as number one in Virginia for coronary interventional procedures as well as number one in Virginia, and among the top 10 percent in the nation, for cardiology services for the second consecutive year. Read more
RMH youth tobacco prevention program awarded $179K grant
The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth has awarded a $178,770 grant to the Strong Families/Great Youth Coalition’s Toward No Tobacco program to support and expand tobacco prevention classes for middle school students.
TNT is a two-week evidence-based tobacco prevention class taught to seventh-graders in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and Augusta County by RMH respiratory therapist Ron Cople. Read more
