Kaine participated in discussions on energy and transportation on Sunday in Williamsburg and highlighted the benefits of the EcoDriving program—a comprehensive, nationwide effort to save consumers money at the gas pump, reduce fuel use and cut carbon dioxide emissions. Stimulus monies to help pay for solar panels

An $80 million grant from the federal stimulus will fund improvements to wastewater-treatment plants across the Commonwealth, including here in the Valley.
Augusta County will get $364,964 to go toward the installation of solar panels at wastewater-treatment plant pump stations across the county, according to the office of Gov. Tim Kaine, who on Tuesday accepted a check on behalf of the Commonwealth for $80,203,300 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Read more

Kaine announces actions on Renew Virginia

Gov. Tim Kaine announced action on Tuesday on several pieces of legislation related to his Renew Virginia green initiative, including a series of amendments to bills included in the package.

This bill originally implemented the number one recommendation of the Climate Change Commission: the establishment of a mandatory energy efficiency standard under which electricity consumption would be reduced by 19 percent of 2006 levels by 2025. Read more

Green-collar jobs

Oh, yeah, no doubt, it’s about being green, being considerate of the environment and all of that. But the Staunton Green 2020 effort is as much about economic development as it is hugging trees.
“It’s not liberals sitting around in offices sipping coffee and pontificating. It’s jobs for blue-collar workers in this new economy,” said Erik Curren, who is helping lead the effort in the Queen City toward the development of a competitive green economy in the heart of the Valley. Read more
