Three different players posted double-doubles for visiting Radford, led by Art Parakhouski’s 30 points and 22 rebounds, as the Highlanders defeated the VMI Keydets 111-84 in a Big South contest played Tuesday at Cameron Hall.
The two teams battled through a close game early, with six ties and six lead changes coming in the opening 9:52. VMI retook the lead on a basket by Hunter Houston, 24-22, with 10:08 left in the first half, but Radford launched a 15-2 run over the next 2:14 to go up 37-26, and the Highlanders would not trail again.
Parakhouski’s 30 points moved him past the 1,000 career point plateau, as he reached the mark in just 55 career games, the sixth-fastest effort in Big South history. His 22 boards tied the Cameron Hall record, was a new Radford school record and allowed him to post the first 30-20 game in Highlander history. Joey Lynch-Flohr had 13 points and grabbed 13 caroms, and Lazar Trifunovic scored 27 and had 12 boards.
With the win, Radford moves to 12-10 on the year and 8-4 in the Big South, while VMI falls to 7-14 and 2-9 in conference play.

Liberty women take down Highlanders

Liberty broke open a tight game with an 11-2 run to close the first half of Monday evening’s game at Radford. The Lady Flames maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way, claiming a share of first place in the Big South standings with a 63-45 triumph at the Dedmon Center.
2008 Waynesboro High School graduate Devon Brown led three Liberty players in double figures with 20 points, helping the Lady Flames post their ninth straight victory. Liberty is now 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the Big South, putting the Lady Flames in a tie with Gardner-Webb atop the conference ledger.
Radford, which had won four of its last five home games, shot only 29.4 percent on the evening. The Highlanders fall to 5-14 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Senior guard Pierre Curtis (Denver, Colo./East) and freshman guard Darren White (Danville, Va./Dan River) hit four free throws in the final 16 seconds to push James Madison past Radford 67-63 in a non-conference men’s basketball game Monday evening at the Convocation Center.
JMU snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 9-11 for the season. RU dropped to 10-9. The contest was originally slated for Dec. 19 but was postponed due to a severe winter storm.
The Dukes trailed 55-54 with 3:12 to go before reeling off a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the night at 63-55 with 49 seconds remaining. However, the lead vanished in 32 seconds thanks to an 8-0 spurt by the Highlanders. Read more

Center Art Parakhouski scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Radford to a 109-91 win over VMI Thursday night at the Dedmon Center.
VMI was led by freshman forward Stan Okoye, who produced his third consecutive double-double game with a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds.
2008 Waynesboro High School grad Nick Gore scored six points in 11 minutes of action off the bench for VMI, which dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-7 in the Big South Conference. The Highlanders now stand 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the league.

Sophomore guard Matt Rum topped the Tribe with a career-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Junior forward Quinn McDowell tallied his second straight double-double as he notched 13 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Julian Boatner continued his torrid shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, knocking down four triples to finish with 12 points. Senior forward Marcus Kitts just missed a double-double with 10 points and seven rebounds to go along with four blocked shots, while freshman guard Brandon Britt scored 10 points and dished out a team-best five assists.
