Towson completes sweep of JMU
Second baseman Pat Fitzgerald’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th lifted Towson to a 5-4 win over James Madison to complete a Colonial Athletic Association baseball sweep on Saturday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
TU improved to 26-29 overall and clinched the final available spot in the six-team CAA Championship with a 15-15 league mark. JMU finished the season with six straight losses to fall to 16-35-2 overall and 10-20 in the CAA for a 10th-place standing. It was Towson’s first three-game sweep of JMU since 1992. Read more
Towson outslugs JMU, 11-10
Towson scored eight unanswered runs during the middle innings and held on in the end to defeat James Madison 11-10 in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Friday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Towson improved to 25-29 overall and, at 14-15, put itself in better position to claim the final available spot in next week’s six-team CAA Championship in Harrisonburg. JMU fell to 16-34-2 overall and 10-19 in league play. Read more
JMU gets $600K grant to aid Iraqi university business programs
A pair of Iraqi universities will get help from James Madison University to gain accreditation for their business programs.
The Center for International Stabilization and Recovery and the College of Business at JMU have received a $629,513 grant to provide information and guidance through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The work will take place at Salahaddin University in Erbil, and at Al Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad. Read more

JMU loses, eliminates from CAA Tourney contention
Starter Michael Trionfo limited James Madison to two runs in eight innings while left fielder Kurt Wertz homered and drove in four runs as Towson won 8-3 in the opening game of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Thursday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
TU improved to 24-29 overall and remained in the CAA tournament hunt with a 13-15 league slate. JMU fell to 16-33-2 overall and was officially eliminated from the tournament picture with a 10-18 CAA mark. Read more
Longwood tops JMU, 4-1
Left fielder Robby Newman hit a pair of home runs while five Longwood pitchers combined to limit James Madison to six hits in a 4-1 win in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday evening at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Longwood improved to 24-20 overall while JMU fell to 16-32-2 in its 50th game of the season. Read more
Shenandoah National Park hosts regional conference
Shenandoah National Park and its neighboring communities will host a one-day conference, Connecting for Prosperity – Charting the Future Together, on May 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
The workshop-style conference will include presentations by guest panelists, case studies, and facilitated discussions to help identify the region’s shared goals and to build an awareness of the economic potential for the area. Read more
