H1N1 vaccines on way to Virginia

State Health Commissioner Karen Remley, M.D., MBA has announced that the first shipments of novel H1N1 influenza vaccine are on the way to Virginia. The first “routine” shipment of novel H1N1 vaccine to Virginia is being preceded by a small shipment, expected to arrive within the next week, that will allow the vaccination of individuals in the priority categories to begin, and will also allow the Virginia Department of Health to validate both the national and state-level distribution systems. State Health Commissioner Karen Remley, M.D., MBA today visted Grove Park Preschool in Danville, to discuss state preparations against the H1N1 virus and to see first hand how schools and local health departments are working together to prepare for the fall flu season. Lab confirms two H1N1 cases in Greater Augusta

Two state lab-confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in school-aged children in the Greater Augusta area, the Central Shenandoah Health District reported today.

State, feds, president talk H1N1 preparedness

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine today announced measures Virginia is undertaking to protect against the H1N1 flu virus. The state has developed an H1N1 action plan and vaccination will be a key part of the effort to protect Virginians. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) expects to begin immunizations among particularly susceptible groups upon receipt of the H1N1 vaccine in October. The VDH anticipates having enough vaccine to immunize everyone who wishes to protect themselves against this new flu strain. Read more
