Tim Kaine had thought, like a lot of us did, that his political career was over.
In January 2010, Kaine finished up his term as governor of Virginia, and looked out a landscape in Virginia politics that featured two Democrats, Jim Webb and Mark Warner, representing the Commonwealth in the United States Senate.
So for Kaine, it was either wait out his gubernatorial successor’s single four-year term and run again for governor, which only one other predecessor, Mills Godwin, has been able to do successfully, or move into the next phase of his life. Read more
Kaine to tour Downtown Waynesboro on Saturday
Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, now a candidate for the United States Senate, will take a walking tour of Downtown Waynesboro on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Wayne Theatre and ending at 11 a.m. at the Green Leaf Grill at 415 W. Main St.
Kaine outlines economic agenda
Tim Kaine released his economic agenda on Wednesday as he embarked on a two-week tour of Virginia. The roadmap includes strategic initiatives to grow businesses and encourage job creation, develop a talented workforce, and balance the budget by finding common ground on spending cuts as well as investments that will generate new revenue.
“As the global competition increases, we must act now to equip businesses with the tools they need to create jobs, develop a strong and talented workforce, and address our fiscal challenges by finding common ground,” said Kaine. “We can no longer let politics get in the way of what’s best for our economy and this vision lays out a roadmap for our future economic success.” Read more
Allen raises $1.4M in first quarter
The George Allen for U.S. Senate campaign announced on Tuesday that it has raised more than $1.4 million since the start of the year.
The first quarter report will show that the Allen campaign has nearly $2.66 million cash-on-hand. Read more
Kaine camp announces first-quarter money numbers
Kaine for Virginia announced on Tuesday that the campaign raised more than $2.2 million in the first quarter of 2012, and has more than $4.4 million cash on hand.
Since the campaign began one year ago, Kaine for Virginia has raised $7.4 million from more than 19,000 individuals. In the first quarter of 2012, 6,000 new grassroots donors made contributions of $200 or less, bringing the total number of low-dollar donors to more than 14,000 overall. Read more
Allen visits Luray on campaign stop
George Allen led a town-hall-style meet-and-greet in the open air outside the entrance of Luray Caverns in Luray Saturday afternoon. His main topic of discussion revolved around how rising gasoline prices are adversely impacting the people of the Shenandoah Valley.
“I am running for the Senate because I don’t like where things are going,” said Allen. “This is the worst job market since World War II for young people,” he continued. “Unemployment is high but more disturbing and discouraging is the underemployment.” Read more
