Ravs calls goes to the cats

The Richard Adams Variety Show will give cat lovers a turn on the Friday, May 11th performance.

Besides a full list of musicians, Richard will hold his first “You Can Sound Like a Cat” competition.  Like his “You Can Sound Like a Dog” competition,  contestants will mount the WTA’s Gateway stage and mew, purr, or howl to the scrutiny of the audience.  The winner will take home a valuable prize.

Also appearing on the Variety Show will be a solo turn by the keyboard wonder William Hayes.  Rhythm Road will perform songs from their repertory and the Bame Duo will bring their joint talents to the event. Read more

Keeping it primitive at WTA’s Gateway

WTA brings Rootstone Jug Band for an evening of American roots music to the Gateway on April 27.  Five guys will gather around a single microphone and summon up the rich strains of traditional jug band.  It will be “Primitive Roots Music” at its unique best.  The performance is at 8 pm at WTA’s Gateway at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.

Founded in 2008, Rootstone Jug Band is comprised of five versatile young musicians who perform Early American Roots Music from across the American south.   Their performances preserve the regional accents of America’s pioneer rural recording artists, with material from Virginia string bands, Piedmont blues artists from North Carolina, Jug Bands and songsters from Memphis, Delta Blues singers from Mississippi, and more.  All of this is presented along with a handful of original compositions and retrofitted popular songs, performed with a reverence and enthusiasm that shows the durability of America’s roots music. Liz Barnes and Barbara Martin dish up unique musical synergy

When it’s jazz pianist Liz Barnes and vocalist Barbara Martin, you get an exciting musical synergy that lovers of blues and jazz won’t want to miss. Whether in an intimate musical setting or on a larger stage, Barnes & Martin are known for engaging the audience with skillful, entertaining and emotionally-charged performances.

Barnes and Martin have each made significant names for themselves in more than 20 years of composing, touring, recording and teaching, and in 2012 they are melding their considerable talents to partner as Barnes & Martin. Read more

Richard Adams’ Friday the 13th Spectacular

The Richard Adams Variety Show for April lands on Friday the 13th and to keep the evil eye away, Adams has put together spectacular entertainment.  Heading the show is Bert Carlson and Ray Cohen.  They are joined by Blues musician Lisa Miller and the cast of musical City of Angels.  Completing the spectacular will be the dueling Colggers.

Ray Cohen is known for his wailing blues harmonica.  He has lived and played music in the Valley most of his life, performing with a variety of area blues/rock bands including The Rainmakers and Loose Change.  He was last seen at WTA’s Gateway as part of Fatty Lumpkin and the Love Hogs. Read more

The Easter Bunny and Magic at WTA’s Gateway

There will be a day of magic and whimsy at WTA’s Gateway on April 7 when the Easter Bunny joins magician Peter Monticup for two performances.  WTA promises an hour of magic and comedy for the whole family.  The performances are at 4 pm and 6 pm at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.  Reservations are suggested.

Peter Monticup is a professional magician who began his career in magic at the age of seven, when he became an apprentice to Professor Henry Bessette, part of the famous Miracle Team. By age seventeen, Monticup had developed a full stage show, and was the featured act at a number of magic conventions. A few years later, he purchased the House of Magic in upstate New York. Faithful Praise showcased at WTA’s Gateway

WTA’s Gateway will showcase Faithful Praise, a unique group of musicans who bring a fresh energy to gospel music on Friday, April 6.  Based out of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, LaDena Knott, Tommy Fortune, and Shari DeLange have joined together as Faithful Praise to create a sound that one would expect to hear from a family that has sung together for years.  The April 6th performance is at 7:30 pm at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro. Southern gospel music at WTA’s Gateway

WTA will present its first Gospel Music Concert on Friday, March 30 at its Gateway in Downtown Waynesboro.  The group, Calvary’s Mercy Quartet, is recognized throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast for traditional Southern Gospel Music at its finest.

“We are so pleased to have Calvary’s Mercy at the Gateway,” said Tracy Straight, WTA’s programming chair.  “This is our first gospel performance and the Quartet is an ideal way for us to initiate this new venture.”  The concert at WTA’s Gateway will be one of the few given in a theatre setting.  The concert is at 7:30 at 329 West Main Street, Waynesboro.
