Augusta Health awarded Primary Stroke Center certification
After undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, Augusta Health has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, and has been re-certified as a Primary Stroke Center. Augusta Health employees earn certifications
During the first quarter, 2012, ten Augusta Health employees earned national certifications in their areas of expertise. These certifications require demonstration of extensive knowledge in a subject area, usually by examination.

Foundation announces scholarship opportunities
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is currently accepting scholarship applications from seniors attending high schools in Staunton, Waynesboro and the counties of Augusta and Nelson.
Additionally, adult students are encouraged to apply for select scholarships such as the Peter Veglahn Memorial Scholarship, established to provide funds for scholarships to college students pursuing a human resources career.
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge administers over 20 scholarship funds which will yield over $37,000 in scholarships this year. Each scholarship has its own specific purpose, selection and eligibility criteria.

Lovell first DAISY Award winner at Augusta Health
Brittany Lovell, RN, a nurse in the Emergency Department at Augusta Health, is the first nurse there to be awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She was recognized for her caring attitude, her grace under pressure, and her gentle and compassionate communication with patients in stressful situations. Cathy Deane, RN, and Molly Hileman, RN, both of the Intensive Care Unit, were also recognized.
Lovell received a certificate of appreciate, a hand-carved sculpture of ‘A Healer’s Touch’ and Cinnabons to share with her colleagues. The monthly award is sponsored by the DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, and in honor of the care he and his family received from nurses during his illness. Read more

Mary N. Mannix, president and CEO of Augusta Health, has been selected for the Class of 2012 of Influential Women of Virginia.
The awards program, now in its fourth year, recognizes the outstanding efforts of women in the Commonwealth in all fields, including law, business, health care, education and the arts.
