JMU drops fourth straight
Forward Jamelle Hagins and guard Devon Saddler posted 23 and 22 points, respectively, as Delaware held off James Madison’s second-half charge to post an 85-80 Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball win on Saturday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.
Delaware improved to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in the CAA while JMU dropped to 10-15 overall and 3-10 in the league with its fourth straight loss.
Hagins finished with a career-high 23 points and 18 rebounds for 12th double-double of the season to go along with four blocks. He was 7-for-12 from the field and 9-for-13 at the foul line. Mason rally falls short at Delaware
The George Mason men’s basketball team could not overcome a double-digit first half deficit, as the Patriots dropped a 65-60 decision on Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center. Mason (18-6, 10-2 CAA) saw its six-game win streak come to an end, as the Blue Hens (11-12, 6-6) earned a season split in the series.
Senior Ryan Pearson led the Mason offense with a game-high 25 points and had a team-best eight rebounds. Joining him with double-digit scoring was sophomore Sherrod Wright and senior Mike Morrison, who chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Delaware outlasts JMU women, 72-65
Scoring more second-half points from the foul line than from the floor, #15 Delaware beat James Madison 72-65 in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Sunday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
The Blue Hens won their eighth in a row and remained unbeaten in league play at 9-0 while improving to 18-1 overall.
JMU, which saw its winning streak end at four games, has a 15-5 overall record and a 6-3 CAA record.

Mason cooks Blue Hens, 89-63
With an explosive start to its three-game homestand, the George Mason men’s basketball team scored quickly and cruised to a 89-63 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Delaware on Wednesday night at the Patriot Center. Mason’s win keeps the Patriots atop the conference standings at 6-1 (14-5 overall), while the Blue Hens dropped to 3-4 in the CAA and 7-10 overall.
A pair of Mason seniors led the way, as Ryan Pearson posted his seventh double-double of the season with game-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Classmate Mike Morrison added 17 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Bryon Allen chipped in 12. Mason out-shot the Blue Hens by a 54.4-to-36.7 percent margin and turned UD over 16 times, compared to eight turnovers for the Patriots. Devon Saddler led the Blue Hens with 21 points. JMU women's lax beats Delaware on Senior Day
The ninth-ranked James Madison lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 9-5 Colonial Athletic Association win over Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Lacrosse Complex.
The Dukes improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in league play. Delaware’s record stands at 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the CAA.

#7 Delaware pulls away, knocks off #5 UR
Redshirt freshman running back Jovan Smith gained 102 yards on 10 carries, but visiting seventh-ranked Delaware struck for three-consecutive touchdowns in the second half to beat No. 5 Richmond, 34-13, Saturday at Robins Stadium in the CAA Football opener for both teams.
It was the Spiders’ (1-2, 0-1) first setback at their new on-campus stadium after christening it last Saturday with another Top-10 showdown – a 27-21 win over then-No. 7 Elon in overtime. Both games were played before sellout crowds.
Smith, a Springfield, Va. native, averaged 10.2 yards on his 10 carries – marking the first 100-yard game by a Richmond running back since then-senior Justin Forte racked up 121 yards at Towson last season (Oct. 31). Smith also caught four passes for 11 yards.

Dukes break losing streak, win at Delaware, 20-8
Redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Thorpe (Richmond, Va./Varina) ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead the James Madison football team to a 20-8 victory at Delaware Saturday.
