#1 UVa. lax wins at #20 Drexel 9-8

Rob Emery took a Colin Briggs pass and ripped it for the game’s final goal with 4:48 left in the contest, lifting the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers (1-0) to a season-opening triumph over the No. 20 Drexel Dragons (0-1) on Saturday afternoon, 9-8.

VMI lax drops opener at Navy

After a slow start on the defensive end of the field, the VMI lacrosse held strong in the second half, but could not undo a 10-goal first half by the Navy Midshipmen, falling 14-7 in the 2012 season opener.

Stanwick takes home Tewaaraton

Virginia junior attackman Steele Stanwick has become the third Cavalier to win the coveted Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded to the top male collegiate lacrosse player, announced by the Greater Washington Alliance on Thursday night inside Washington D.C.’s Warner Theatre.

Stanwick (Baltimore, Md.) joins Chris Rotelli (2003) and Matt Ward (2006) as Virginia Cavaliers who have won college lacrosse’s top honor. Siena ends VMI lax season with loss

The VMI lacrosse team concluded its 2011 campaign with an 18-9 defeat against the Siena Saints Saturday, April 30 in Loudonville, N.Y. Drew Leonard scored five goals in the contest, which also marked the final game in the careers of VMI’s pair of departing seniors, Bobby Davis and Lowell Patterson. Jacksonville edges VMI men's lax

Despite four goals from juniors Drew Leonard and Tyler Griffith and a season-high 50 shots, the Keydets were defeated 13-12 on by the Jacksonville Dolphins Sunday, April 24 at VMI’s Foster Stadium. The day also honored VMI’s pair of seniors, Bobby Davis and Lowell Patterson, each of whom played their final home game of the Keydet careers.

The Keydets (2-10, 0-5 MAAC) won the ground ball battled between the No. 1 and No. 3 ground ball teams in the country, taking the category by a 50-31 margin. Junior Stephen Robarge was responsible for 15 pickups to tie him for second in program history in ground balls in a game, and was also 23-of-29 on faceoffs in the contest. No. 6 Duke eliminates No. 10 UVa in the ACC Men's Lacrosse Tournament

The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils (11-4) used a 7-1 second quarter run to eliminate the No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers (8-5) from the ACC Tournament on Saturday night, 19-10, inside Koskinen Stadium. Top-seeded Duke advances to the ACC Tournament final on Sunday against No. 3 seed Maryland.

“We just couldn’t get the ball cleared in the second quarter,” Virginia head coach Dom Starsia said. “We were scrambling a little bit in the defensive end.”

The contest started out well in UVa’s favor. Colin Briggs scored 1:23 into the contest on a fast break giving UVa the quick 1-0 advantage. After Duke’s Josh Offit scored unassisted at 11:30 in the first quarter, Rob Emery pushed UVa up a goal again, 2-1, with a score at 7:06. No. 4 UNC earns lopsided victory over No. 10 Virginia in ACC Quarterfinals, 16-5

The third-seeded and fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels earned its most lopsided victory in series history over the sixth-seeded and 10th-ranked Virginia women’s lacrosse team Thursday night, 16-5, in the first round of the 2011 ACC Tournament at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Longwood women's lax falls to Navy on Senior Day

The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team fell to visiting Navy 9-6 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Senior Cara O’Brien|Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) led the Lancers (8-7, 4-2 NLC) with two goals, adding to her team- and conference-high 43 (9a, 52p). #7 UVa. men's lax falls at #10 Duke

Colin Briggs scored a career-high four goals, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers (8-4, 1-2 ACC) fell to the No. 10 Duke Blue Devils (10-4, 3-0 ACC) on Saturday, 13-11, inside Koskinen Stadium. The hat trick for Briggs was his second straight.

Shamel Bratton etched his name in UVa history with two points (1 goal, 1 assist), tying former teammate Brian Carroll for No. 1 all-time among UVa midfielders with 128 career points.

# 11 Virginia women's lax wins at Mason

The No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse team used 12 second-half goals to erase an even 2-2 halftime score and earn a 14-7 victory over in-state rival George Mason Wednesday night. With the win, the Cavaliers move to 5-0 against teams from Virginia this year and 9-5 overall. The loss drops the Patriots to 3-10 this season.

Junior Josie Owen led Virginia with a career-high five scores, while classmate Julie Gardner tacked on three goals and one assist. Freshman Dana Boyle had two scores for the Cavaliers, while sophomores Annie Thomas and Caroline McTiernan, in addition to freshmen Christie Donovan and Katie Slater, each had one goal. Longwood women's lax falls at Virginia Tech

The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team dropped a non-conference match 12-9 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia Tuesday afternoon. The Lancers were paced by senior Amanda Bereznay|Gwynn Oak, Md. (Seton Keough) who tallied a team-high three goals and one assist off five shots. VMI lax falls to Canisius

The Keydets fell behind 4-0 to the Canisius Golden Griffins in the first 10 minutes of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest Saturday, April 9 at Foster Stadium, but VMI but rallied back to close the to 5-4 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Golden Griffins shutout the Keydets in second quarter 3-0 to build an 8-4 lead and never looked back, defeating VMI 13-9 on Wounded Warrior Project Day.
