Same ol’ song: Dukes drop one on the road at Drexel
After trailing by one at the half, Drexel blew past James Madison in the second half by a 44-26 margin to extend its winning streak to 16 in a row with a 78-61 decision in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game Wednesday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
DU won its school-record 24th game of the season (24-5) and clinched first place in the CAA at 15-2 thanks to George Mason’s overtime loss at Northeastern. UVa. wins nailbiter at Virginia Tech, 61-59
A 17-2 second-half run erased an eight-point deficit, and Virginia held on after losing its starting guards to foul trouble in the final two minutes to post a 61-59 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Tuesday night.
The Hokies had won two of their last three on buzzer-beaters, and had a chance to win another one at the end after Akil Mitchell missed the front end of a one-and-one with 22.5 seconds left. Tech coach Seth Greenberg called timeout to set up a game-winning play, but his team never got a shot off.

UVa. women win at Tech
The Virginia women’s basketball team defeated in-state and Atlantic Coast Conference rival Virginia Tech, 66-40, Sunday (Feb. 19) afternoon in Blacksburg, Va.

JMU women surprised by Northeastern
Northeastern converted 20 of 25 free throws in its first-ever win over James Madison as the Huskies took a 61-50 win in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court.
JMU’S record now stands at 20-6 and 11-4 in CAA play and the Dukes remain in sole possession of second place in the league standings. EMU women down Guilford, lock up #2 seed in ODAC
Heading into Saturday’s season finale at Guilford College, the Eastern Mennonite women knew they controlled their own destiny for the second seed in next week’s ODAC Tournament. The Royals responded in a big way, controlling the second half in a 68-56 win.
EMU finishes 17-3 in the ODAC and tied with Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins gain the tourney’s top seed based on sweeping the Royals during the season. Roanoke takes down BC, 80-73
Roanoke College opened up a double-digit lead in the first half Saturday afternoon and the Maroons held off Bridgewater College down the stretch to take a 80-73 victory in the ODAC regular season finale.
Roanoke big man Daniel Eacho had a career game in the first half against the Eagles to lead the Maroons to a 39-28 halftime lead. Eacho came into the game averaging just 3.9 points per game and had reached double figures just once this season with 14 points against Emory & Henry.

Mason gets BracketBusters win over Lamar
Senior CAA Player of the Year candidate Ryan Pearson posted his 12th double-double of the season and the George Mason men’s basketball team staved off a late Lamar rally, downing the Cardinals 75-71 on Saturday afternoon. The win, part of the Sears BracketBusters series, was the fifth-straight for Mason (23-6), while the Cardinals dropped to 17-10.
Pearson had game-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds, and was joined in double figures by sophomore Sherrod Wright who chipped in 13 points. Three Cardinals reached double-digit scoring, led by 13 points from Brandon Davis. Continue reading “Mason gets BracketBusters win over Lamar” »
EMU men knock off Guilford in OT, 62-61
The Royals all but locked up a home game in the First Round of the ODAC Tournament as they won a defensive overtime battle in Harrisonburg, knocking off Guilford 62-61. Junior Andrew Thorne (Front Royal, VA/Skyline) put in the game-winning layup with 7.3 seconds left in OT and the Quakers’ Josh Pittman (Archdale, NC/Trinity) missed a contested three pointer to seal the decision.
The young Runnin Royals improve to 3-1 in overtime games this season, with the last being the most important. Eastern Mennonite is now tied with Emory & Henry for seventh in the ODAC standings. Dominant second half pushes #22 UVa. past Maryland
Senior forward Mike Scott scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Virginia men’s basketball team to a 71-44 victory over Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday (Feb. 18).
Freshman guard Malcolm Brogdon added 14 points and senior guard Sammy Zeglinski scored 11 points for the Cavaliers. JMU drops BracketBusters contest to Detroit
Five players reached double figures and Detroit withstood James Madison’s rally from an 18-point deficit in the first half to record an 82-70 Sears BracketBusters win on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall.
UDM won its fifth game in a row and eighth in nine games to improve to 17-12. JMU fell to 11-18 overall and 3-3 all-time in BracketBusters play.
Guard Jason Calliste led Detroit with 19 points. Donavan Foster added 12. LaMarcus Lowe, Doug Anderson and Evan Bruinsma contributed 10 points apiece with Anderson adding seven rebounds. Continue reading “JMU drops BracketBusters contest to Detroit” »
EMU women thump E&H
It took a few minutes to get going, but by the end it was all EMU Friday night, as the women’s basketball team rolled over Emory & Henry 88-59 on the road. The Royals broke off a 26-26 tie in the first half and closed on a 62-33 surge over the final 27 minutes.
