#21 UVa. makes it two in a row against Georgia Tech
The No. 21 Virginia baseball team won its 10th-consecutive game Saturday, downing Georgia Tech, 4-2, at Davenport Field. Virginia (34-14-1, 16-10 ACC) won its seventh-straight ACC contest and clinched its third-consecutive ACC series victory.
Pitching ruled the day on both sides, with each team finishing with just six hits. Virginia’s bullpen tossed five scoreless innings and ran its ACC scoreless innings streak to 37.2 straight innings. Read more
#21 Cavs dig long ball, nip Jackets
Brandon Downes (Fr., South Plainfield, N.J.) singled home Jared King (R-Jr., Radford, Va.) with one out in the eighth inning to lift the No. 21 Virginia baseball team to a 6-5 win over Georgia Tech Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Davenport Field. Virginia (33-14-1, 15-10 ACC) notched its ninth-consecutive win, including its sixth straight in ACC play, and in doing so clinched a berth in the 2012 ACC Baseball Championship, slated for May 23-27 in Greensboro, N.C.
Half of Virginia’s eight hits came via home runs. The Cavaliers’ four home runs were most by a Virginia team since May 1, 2010, when UVa hit four at Duke, and it was the most home runs by the Cavaliers at Davenport Field since March 3, 2002, when UVa hit four against Seton Hall. Read more
#21 UVa. blows past High Point, 12-3
The No. 21 Virginia baseball team shook off the rust of an eight-day layoff for final exams by rolling to a 12-3 victory over High Point Wednesday evening at a soggy Davenport Field.
The win extended Virginia’s winning streak to a season-high eight games. UVa (32-14-1) posted a four-run third inning and a six-run seventh inning in a game which started one hour, 57 minutes late because of rain. Read more

Twenty horses are scheduled to run in the 138th Kentucky Derby Saturday at 4 p.m. on NBC. Just over two minutes later, only one will have a chance at this year’s Triple Crown.
Bodemeister jumped out of the gate as the early favorite, just ahead of Union Rags. One of them could be remembered like Secretariat, or fade as another trivia answer after their glorious ride.

JMU drops finale to George Mason
George Mason posted two unearned runs in the eighth inning on an infield single and a wild pitch to rally past James Madison 6-5 to clinch the Colonial Athletic Association baseball series Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
GMU improved to 30-17 overall and 15-9 in the CAA while winning its sixth straight league series. JMU fell to 15-29-1 overall and 9-15 in the league while dropping its first series in the last four. The Dukes had won seven of nine conference games entering the weekend. Read more
JMU evens series with Mason
Sophomore Conner Brown (Richmond, Va./Godwin) had three hits with two triples and James Madison’s freshman tandem of Michael Howerton (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) and Aaron Hoover (Centreville, Va./Westfield) combined to limit George Mason to one earned run in a 5-2 win in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Saturday night at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
JMU improved to 15-28-1 overall and 9-14 in the CAA while GMU fell to 29-17 overall, 14-9 in the league. The game included a 46-minute lightning delay in the middle of the seventh inning. Read more
JMU wastes stellar pitching effort, falls to Mason, 3-2
George Mason scored unearned runs in the fifth and eighth and overcame being limited to two hits in the game to defeat James Madison 3-2 in the opener of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Friday night at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
GMU improved to 29-16 overall and 14-8 in the CAA as the Patriots look for their sixth straight conference series win. JMU dropped to 14-28-1 overall and 8-14 in the conference with the Dukes needing a pair of wins to record their fourth straight series win. Read more
