Georgia Tech rocks #17 UVa.

The No. 17 Virginia baseball team lost 17-5 to No. 8 seed Georgia Tech Friday afternoon at the ACC Baseball Championship at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C.

The game was halted in the seventh inning because of the tournament’s 10-run mercy rule. The No. 4 seed in the tournament, Virginia (37-17-1) is now 1-1 in pool play.

UVa concludes pool play at 3 p.m. Saturday when it takes on top-seeded Florida State.

Colin Harrington (R-So., Johnstown, Pa.) tied a career high with three hits for the Cavaliers, while Derek Fisher (Fr., Rexmont, Pa.) and Branden Cogswell (Fr., Ballston Lake, N.Y.) each added a pair of hits. #17 UVa. rallies, knocks off Clemson in ACC Tourney

The No. 17 Virginia baseball team scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to rally and defeat fifth-seeded Clemson Thursday afternoon in the Cavaliers’ opener at the ACC Baseball Championship at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. Virginia (37-16-1) captured its eighth-consecutive win against Clemson (32-25).

The No. 4 seed in the tournament, Virginia next will play No. 8 seed Georgia Tech at 11 a.m. Friday in the pool-play format. The Cavaliers conclude pool play at 3 p.m. Saturday when they take on top-seeded Florida State. Clemson plays the Seminoles at 3 p.m. Friday. Read more

Three Cavs named to All-ACC baseball team

Three members of the Virginia baseball team have been named to the 2012 All-ACC Team, which was announced Monday by the conference office.

Branden Kline (Jr., Frederick, Md.), Justin Thompson (Sr., Danville, Va.) and Keith Werman (Sr., Vienna, Va.) each were the named to the All-ACC second team. The All-ACC team was voted upon by the league’s 12 head coaches. Read more

UVa. baseball opens ACC Tournament on Thursday

The Virginia baseball team has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship and will begin tournament play at 11 a.m. Thursday against Clemson.

The tournament runs Wednesday through Sunday (May 23-27) at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C.

Virginia is joined in Division A by No. 1 seed Florida State (43-12, 24-6), No. 5 Clemson (32-24, 16-14) and No. 8 Georgia Tech (33-24, 12-18). Virginia will play Georgia Tech at 11 a.m. Friday and Florida State at 3 p.m. Saturday. Read more

Maryland rallies in ninth to knock off #19 UVa.

Jordan Hagel doubled home Aflredo Rodriguez with two outs in the ninth inning to rally Maryland to a 6-5 win over the No. 19 Virginia baseball team Saturday at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park, Md. The Terrapins scored twice in the ninth to come back for the win and avoid a series sweep, just after UVa had broken a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth.

Virginia finished the regular season with a 36-16-1 record, including an 18-12 mark in the ACC. The Cavaliers have clinched the No. 4 seed at the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship, which is slated for May 23-27 in Greensboro, N.C. Read more

#19 UVa. rallies with eight in ninth for 10-3 win

The No. 19 Virginia baseball team scored eight runs in the ninth inning to come from behind and pull out a 10-3 victory at Maryland Friday night at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park, Md. The Cavaliers trailed 3-0 and had just one hit in the seventh inning before storming back for the win, which was punctuated by a Chris Taylor (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) grand slam in the ninth to blow the game open.

In clinching their fourth straight ACC series win, Virginia (36-15-1, 18-11 ACC) won its ninth straight contest against Maryland (31-24, 9-20) and captured its 15th consecutive victory in College Park against the Terrapins, dating to the 2002 season. The No. 19 Virginia baseball team took the first game of its series at Maryland Thursday evening with a thrilling 7-6 win over the Terrapins at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park, Md. Virginia scored three runs in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie, then held on and turned a double play to end the game and leave the tying run at third base.

Virginia (35-15-1, 17-11 ACC) won its eighth straight game against Maryland (31-23, 9-19) and captured its 14th straight victory in College Park against the Terrapins, dating to the 2002 season. Read more
