Local Boy Scout troop honored for life-saving efforts

Boy Scouts of America Troop 46 from Elkton was honored in ceremonies today for their life saving efforts in support of the Get Alarmed, Virginia! Smoke Alarm Installation and Education campaign. Eagle Scout Brandon Dyer was recognized for his individual achievements in conjunction with the campaign. Due to the efforts of Troop 46, 5 lives were potentially saved during a fire at a Mount Crawford residence on June 9. Read more

It’s over. Almost heaven won. Heaven lost.
That once both feared and loved army of Boy Scouts will not be coming to East Virginia every four years. No, the National Boys Scouts Jamboree will be heading west to the other Virginia. They will still be using Interstate 64, but there will be no stopping in Rockbridge County. And there will be no need to fix up the Goshen train station. Thurmond, W.Va., has one, 150 miles up the line.  Read more
