DCCU sponsors yard sale to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters
DuPont Community Credit Union’s 2012 Corporate Charity Team – Big Hearts – is sponsoring a Community Yard Sale, Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Credit Union’s Lucy Lane Office in Waynesboro.
The team is raising funds to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations in the Shenandoah Valley. DMB tix raffle to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge, in partnership with 106.1 “The Corner,” is raffling off two “Super VIP” passes to the November 20 Dave Matthews Band concert at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
Raffle tickets are $20 each and the winner will receive two Super VIP passes – a $1,500 value. As Super VIPs, the lucky winner and a guest will enjoy a backstage meet-and-greet with Dave Matthews before the show, access to a dinner buffet and open bar before and during the show, free parking at the venue, prime seating for the concert, and a chance to win some cool DMB merchandise.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge is pleased to announce that local music personality Fritz Horisk will serve as MC for the 100 Mentors 100 Kids Benefit Concert that will be held at the Mockingbird Restaurant’s Roots Music Hall in Staunton on Saturday, June 19 at 8:30 p.m.
Horisk Fritz came to Staunton in 2006 from Wilmington, Del. He has been in and around music, radio and television since 1973.
The Staunton Music Guild is sponsoring the event as part of their ongoing community outreach mission. A lineup of guild members is providing entertainment, including Curly Straight and the Polar Opposites, Billy Caldwell and The Last Minute Band. Read more

Dave Norris sort of fell into the lap of Big Brothers Big Sisters. And Big Brothers Big Sisters needed something to go right after its most trying year in its 30-year history.
“We are extremely optimistic about where we’re headed. Getting Dave on board was huge. We’ve had a year or more of struggles. Our funding streams just dried up. Bringing Dave on, he’s been able to do some organizational restructuring and rebuilding. We’re getting on the right track, definitely,” said Mike Kelley, the president of the board of the local Big Brothers Big Sisters, which hired Norris, the Charlottesville mayor and founding executive director of PACEM, a Charlottesville homeless shelter, in September. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge is hosting Magic Under the Stars June 4 at the Staunton Holiday Inn.
The event features a live and silent auction, food, entertainment and more.
The fund-raiser runs from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Waynesboro YMCA, Waynesboro Remax, Staunton Holiday Inn and the Gold’s Gym at the Staunton Mall. Read more

A budget crisis nearly closed the doors at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge, but several months of hard work from its volunteer board of directors and an infusion of staff talent has the nonprofit thinking big.
“It’s a pretty ambitious goal. This year we want to recruit and match 100 adult mentors with 100 kids,” said executive director Dave Norris at last week’s launch of the 100 Mentors for 100 Kids campaign in Waynesboro. Read more
