Credibility and likeability attracts customers

As you work to market your business and make it easier and more authentic to gain more clients, you now take the next step to be the most credible and trustworthy source of services in your field. The way you do that is to become and establish yourself as an authority. You not only establish yourself as an expert but a likeable one as well. So, do people know how much you know and do they like you?
When hiring a physician, dentist or audiologist you are assuming they have the necessary credentials. You certainly need them to have the appropriate education, training and experience. Your health depends on it. Once you are treated, what is one reason you might leave their practice? Lack of “bedside manner.” Even highly educated and experienced medical professionals lose business because of poor relationships with their patients.
It is the same with all service providers. Two factors propel you out in front of the pack or hinder you from reaching your maximum business potential – one is, “Do people know how much you know?” The other is, “How likeable are you?” Read more

Tonight’s Virginia vs. UNC-Wilmington men’s basketball game at John Paul Jones Arena has been postponed because of hazardous travel conditions caused by the heavy snowfall in the Charlottesville area. The schools will try to reschedule the game during the 2009-10 season.
“We are postponing the game in the interest of safety for the participants, staff and fans,” said Virginia athletics director Craig Littlepage. “With the hazardous travel conditions caused by the extremely heavy snowfall we are concerned about individuals getting to the arena for the game, including teams, game officials and the core staff we need to play a game.” Read more
Evans scores 31, but Dukes fall at Duke

James Madison junior guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) scored 31 points but the No. 24/25-ranked Dukes lost 79-65 at No. 7 Duke in women’s basketball Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
JMU, which lost for the first time in eight games, now has a 7-1 record. Duke improved to 8-2 on the year.
In the opening half Duke scored six unanswered points to start a 30-12 run that put the Blue Devils up by 16, 36-20, with 6:16 left.
JMU closed the half by outscoring Duke 14-8 to trim the lead to 10, 44-34, at intermission. Evans scored 11 of those points, including three three-pointers. Read more
McDonnell announces first round of staff hires

Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell announced the first appointments in his incoming gubernatorial administration today during a late-morning press conference at the State Capitol.
McDonnell named two longtime senior staff members in the Office of the Attorney General, Martin Kent and Marla Decker, to serve as his Chief of Staff and Secretary of Public Safety, respectively. He announced that he would reappoint the Commonwealth’s current Secretary of Finance, Ric Brown, to the same position. Read more

Five James Madison University football players have been named to the College Sporting News’ 2009 preseason Football Championship Subdivision All-America team.
Senior cornerback Scotty McGee (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) was named to the first team as a return specialist; junior offensive tackle Theo Sherman (Danville, Va./Chatham) and senior defensive tackle Sam Daniels (Portsmouth, Va./Woodrow Wilson) were named to the second team; and senior offensive guard Dorian Brooks (Richmond, Va./Varina) and senior defensive end Arthur Moats (Portsmouth, Va./Churchland) were named to the third team.
