Rob Emery took a Colin Briggs pass and ripped it for the game’s final goal with 4:48 left in the contest, lifting the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers (1-0) to a season-opening triumph over the No. 20 Drexel Dragons (0-1) on Saturday afternoon, 9-8.

No. 6 Duke eliminates No. 10 UVa in the ACC Men's Lacrosse Tournament
The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils (11-4) used a 7-1 second quarter run to eliminate the No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers (8-5) from the ACC Tournament on Saturday night, 19-10, inside Koskinen Stadium. Top-seeded Duke advances to the ACC Tournament final on Sunday against No. 3 seed Maryland.
“We just couldn’t get the ball cleared in the second quarter,” Virginia head coach Dom Starsia said. “We were scrambling a little bit in the defensive end.”
The contest started out well in UVa’s favor. Colin Briggs scored 1:23 into the contest on a fast break giving UVa the quick 1-0 advantage. After Duke’s Josh Offit scored unassisted at 11:30 in the first quarter, Rob Emery pushed UVa up a goal again, 2-1, with a score at 7:06. No. 4 UNC earns lopsided victory over No. 10 Virginia in ACC Quarterfinals, 16-5
The third-seeded and fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels earned its most lopsided victory in series history over the sixth-seeded and 10th-ranked Virginia women’s lacrosse team Thursday night, 16-5, in the first round of the 2011 ACC Tournament at WakeMed Soccer Park.

#7 UVa. men's lax falls at #10 Duke
Colin Briggs scored a career-high four goals, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers (8-4, 1-2 ACC) fell to the No. 10 Duke Blue Devils (10-4, 3-0 ACC) on Saturday, 13-11, inside Koskinen Stadium. The hat trick for Briggs was his second straight.
Shamel Bratton etched his name in UVa history with two points (1 goal, 1 assist), tying former teammate Brian Carroll for No. 1 all-time among UVa midfielders with 128 career points.

# 11 Virginia women's lax wins at Mason

The No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse team used 12 second-half goals to erase an even 2-2 halftime score and earn a 14-7 victory over in-state rival George Mason Wednesday night. With the win, the Cavaliers move to 5-0 against teams from Virginia this year and 9-5 overall. The loss drops the Patriots to 3-10 this season.
Junior Josie Owen led Virginia with a career-high five scores, while classmate Julie Gardner tacked on three goals and one assist. Freshman Dana Boyle had two scores for the Cavaliers, while sophomores Annie Thomas and Caroline McTiernan, in addition to freshmen Christie Donovan and Katie Slater, each had one goal. #11 UVa. women's lax defeats Virginia Tech
The No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse team held off an eight-goal second-half rally by its in-state rival Virginia Tech Wednesday evening at Klöckner Stadium to earn its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season, 12-10. With the win, the Cavaliers bump their all-time record against the Hokies to 17-0 and move to 9-5 this season and 1-4 in the ACC. Virginia Tech falls to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Junior Charlie Finnigan led all players in the contest with seven points on a game-high four goals and three assists, while classmate Julie Gardner tacked on three goals and one assist. #7 'Hoos win women's lax match with Harvard
Four Cavaliers notched hat tricks for the No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team Sunday afternoon, as the Cavaliers defeated Harvard in a high scoring affair, 19-18. Virginia fought off a late five-goal rally from the Crimson that evened the score at 17, before scoring two of the games final three goals to earn the victory. With the win, Virginia bumps to 7-5 on the season, while Harvard falls to 4-4.
Juniors Ainsley Baker, Charlie Finnigan and Josie Owen each notched four goals on the day, while sophomore Annie Thomas tied a career-high with three scores. Maryland stuns #6 UVa. men's lax

The No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers (7-3, 0-1 ACC) received two goals apiece from Rhamel Bratton and Chris Bocklet, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 10 Maryland Terrapins (7-2, 1-2 ACC) were victorious in front of 10,545 fans on Saturday, 12-7, inside Scott Stadium. The contest was UVa’s first inside the football stadium since 1995.

A slow start plagued the No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 12-6 contest at No. 19 Boston College. The win marks the first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season for the Eagles (6-5, 1-3 ACC) and the first-ever over Virginia. The Cavaliers fall to 6-5 this season and 0-4 in the league.
Virginia was led by junior Charlie Finnigan’s three goals – the 14th hat trick of her career. Sophomore Caroline McTiernan tacked on two scores for Virginia, while junior Josie Owen had the remaining goal. Junior Julie Gardner, sophomore Annie Thomas and Owen were credited for one assist. #2 UVa. men's lax upset by Johns Hopkins
Steele Stanwick had three goals and four assists for the No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers (7-2), but it wasn’t enough as the No. 11 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (6-2) broke a six-game losing streak to UVa with a 12-11 triumph on Saturday afternoon, inside Homewood Field.

UVa. women's lax loses at #3 Duke

The No. 3 Duke women’s lacrosse team used three-straight goals midway through the second half to erase an even 6-6 score and hold on for an 11-8 victory over No. 8 Virginia Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic Coast Conference game played at Klöckner Stadium. UVa-JMU women's lax game halted by lightning, will be replayed
The No. 8 Virginia women’s lacrosse team’s game at No. 10 James Madison Wednesday was stopped in progress due to inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m., at the JMU Lacrosse Complex.
Lightning in the area stopped play at the 4:11 mark of the first half with the score tied at 5-5. On the makeup date, the game will be restarted from the beginning and all results from tonight’s contest will not count.
The Cavaliers (5-3) will be back in action this weekend as they host No. 3 Duke Saturday at Klöckner Stadium. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
