RedWingRoots-3Organizers of the Red Wing Roots Music Festival have announced the full lineup of artists that will perform at Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon, Va., July 11-13. The festival is again hosted by The Steel Wheels and presented by WNRN and Blue Mountain Brewery.

The Steel Wheels are so excited about this year’s lineup!” said Trent Wagler, the band’s lead singer and primary songwriter. “Since the festival was new last year, no one knew what to expect and when it was such a rousing success, the bar was set very high. We believe festival-goers will be even more delighted this year.”

The festival features bands that interpret traditional American forms in their own fresh ways and brings genre leaders such as Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Hayes Carll and Peter Rowan together with hot new acts like The Devil Makes Three, Trampled By Turtles and Sarah Jarosz.

The Steel Wheels, also emerging stars on the national roots scene, founded the festival last year to bring home the exciting music they were seeing at similar events all over the country to the Shenandoah Valley. They chose the beautiful Natural Chimneys Park, in the heart of the Valley, as the setting and featured local bands such as The Judy Chops, The Travelin’ Hillbillies and Bryan Elijah Smith & The Wild Hearts beside a wealth of national talent.

The 2014 Red Wing Roots Music Festival will feature 40 bands on four stages, community dances, kids’ activities, food and craft vendors and access to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities including organized bicycle rides led by Shenandoah Bicycle Coalition. Environmentally aware as well as family-friendly, the festival encourages attendees to bring reusable beverage containers or use the souvenir steel cups, which can be purchased on-site. Drinking water is available for free and craft beer and wine is for sale in the Blue Mountain Brew Garden.

The 2,500 people who attended the inaugural and wildly successful Red Wing Roots Music Festival last year raved about the music, the beautiful setting and the intimate, friendly atmosphere. Determined to retain that character, festival organizers will limit ticket sales to 3,000. With sales running ahead of last year, fans are encouraged to purchase tickets soon. Three-day tickets and single-day tickets for Friday and Sunday are still available at www.redwingroots.com. Walk-up tickets will also be available each day at the gate, until capacity is reached.

While premium RV camping at Natural Chimneys Park sold out quickly, on-site tent camping passes are still available. RV and tent camping is also still available at the scenic Stokesville Campground, five minutes away and served by free shuttle buses for festival attendees.
