Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Nov. 9-13

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, eastbound – Alternating lane closures including exit 1 as needed for milling and paving operations. Variable days and times during the week. Estimated completion December 1.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Brush cutting, Sunday through Saturday, 7 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.  Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday, Tuesday, Thursdayand Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe replacement, pothole repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Grading with a mobile operation.  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Brush cutting, Wednesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews trimming trees, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Single lane closure for sidewalk replacement and drainage work from railroad tracks t0 Beech Avenue.  November 9 to13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 251 (Collierstown Road) – Road closed Monday, November 16 to Friday, November 20 for slope work from Route 677 (Kygers Hill Road) to Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail). Traffic can use Route 677 and Route 612 as a detour.

(UPDATE) Route 501 (Magnolia Avenue, Buena Vista) – Intermittent flagging, right shoulder closed and pedestrian detour for sidewalk replacement project from Dickenson Avenue to 10th Street, November 9 to 14, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Additional crew working from Dickenson Avenue to 15th Street, November 9 to13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 684 (Sallings Mountain Road) – Road closed Wednesday, November 18, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a pipe replacement. This closure is 1.89 mile east of Route 608 (Forge Road) to 0.57 mile to Route 1104 (Shawnee Street). Traffic can use the following detour:  Route 684 to Route 679 (Lone Jack Road) to Route 1105 (Catawba Street) to Route 1101 (6th Street) to Route 1106 (Powhatan Street) back to Route 684. Rain date November 19.

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.

– Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe replacement and ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting and pipe replacement. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 90 to 92, eastbound and westbound – Possible shoulder or lane closures overnight as part of exit 91 improvement project, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday,6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated project completion December 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches, drop inlets and slopes. Object marker replacement guardrails between mile makers 205 and 221.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 215 to 218, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for asphalt work, November 11, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Mondaythrough Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion December 2015.

Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through November 18 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving at Route 635 intersection Sunday, November 15, 6 pm. To 7 a.m. Monday. Flagger controlled lane closures Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.

(NEW) Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving at Route 608 intersection Sunday, November 15, 6 pm. To 7 a.m. Monday. Flagger controlled lane closures Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion November 13.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing and brush chipping.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm.  Estimated completion December 1.

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road) – Brief flagger controlled lane closures Thursday, November 12, between Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) and Route 807 (Koontz Corner Road) for pipe installation.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and brush cutting. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile Marker 283 to 286, northbound, including ramps at exit 283 – Overnight lane closures for guardrail work. Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following mornings.  Estimated completion November 20.

(NEW) Mile Marker 288, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures over Route 642 (Swartz Road) for bridge washing and painting. November 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 293 to 289, southbound, including ramps at exit 291 – Overnight lane closures for milling, paving and guardrail work at various locations.  Sunday to Thursday, 8p.m. to 7 a.m. the following mornings.  Estimated completion November 16.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Right lane closures for bridge repairs over Smith Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. 6 p.m.  Work zone located from 0.8 mile to Route 1002 to 0.1 mile to Route 620.  Estimated December 17.

(NEW) Route 211, eastbound – Mobile/short duration lane closures for soil borings from southern intersection with Route 620 to Shenandoah/Page county line. November 9 through 12, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 642 (Swartz Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for bridge washing and painting at I-81 bridges. November 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 651 – Alternating lane closures for bridge repairs on Route 651 over I-81 at Toms Brook exit 291. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris and cleaning ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 308 to 312, northbound and southbound – Reduced speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project, estimated for May 2018.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.

(NEW) Mile marker 314 to 315, southbound near Winchester – Alternating single lane and shoulder closures as needed for road sensor installation.  November 11 and 12, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following mornings.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion November 15.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 7 Business, eastbound (Main Street, town of Berryville)Road closed until 5 p.m. November 9 between Buckmarsh Street (Route 340) and Church Street for pipe replacement and follow-up paving.  Detour south on Buckmarsh Street, east on Crow Street and north on Church Street to the end of the detour.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

WARREN COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris and ditch cleaning. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations.  6 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.  Estimated completion November 10.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 624 (Happy Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations.  7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 13.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
