The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Possible lane closures as needed for fall brush cutting, Monday through Saturday, 24/7. Be alert for crews trimming trees, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 684 (Sallings Mountain Road) – Road closed Wednesday, November 18, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a pipe replacement. This closure is 1.89 mile east of Route 608 (Forge Road) to 0.57 mile to Route 1104 (Shawnee Street). Traffic can use the following detour: Route 684 to Route 679 (Lone Jack Road) to Route 1105 (Catawba Street) to Route 1101 (6th Street) to Route 1106 (Powhatan Street) back to Route 684. Rain date November 19.
Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
