Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Aug. 17-21

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

(UPDATE) or (NEW) indicates a new entry or a revised entry since last week’s report.

 

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 10, eastbound – Single lane closures for bridge work over Dunlap Creek and Route 159, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion September 1.

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Nighttime lane closures as needed for pothole patching. August 18 and 19, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 27, eastbound and westbound – Nighttime lane closures as needed for replacement of center reflectors.  August 20, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, cleaning paved ditches and clearing sign areas.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 205, northbound and southbound – Nighttime mobile lane closures as needed for pothole patching.  August 18 and 19, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 190.0 to 195.3, northbound – Alternating lane closures Sunday, August 16, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning, and nightly 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Monday to Thursday throughAugust 21.  Shoulder-only closures Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Guardrail work and paving operations.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for shoulder widening, paving, and pavement marking from Route 606 to Route 608.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion August 28.

Route 220 – Spot paving repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 600 (Upper Back Creek Road) – Road repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 632 (Pines Road) – Pipe replacement with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 678 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Spot paving repairs. Spot leveling from Route 615 (Davis Run Road) to McDowell.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Nighttime lane closures as needed for pothole patching on August 17, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Debris removal without lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 89 to 93 – Overnight lane closures for pavement marking. Westbound Monday night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Eastbound Tuesday night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Nighttime lane closures as needed for pothole patching, August 17 and 18 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Debris removal, clearing sign areas, and cleaning paved ditches, bridge slopes and drop inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Southbound lane closures as needed at intersection of Route 635 (Kindig Road) for pavement restoration. August 19-20, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Right lane closure on Route 340 southbound in Stuarts Draft for turn lane construction from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion August 31.

Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through August 31 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 600 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 19-21, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 602 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. Saturday, August 15, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for  installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Sept. 28, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

(NEW) Route 675 (Broadhead School Road) – Road closed for bridge repairs between Route 919 (Old Providence Road) and Route 604 (McClures Mill Road) August 17 through September 4. Property owners can access properties on either side of the work zone. Through traffic will follow one of these posted detours: Drivers approaching from the west follow Route 604 north, Route 662 (Stover School Road) east and Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) south back to Route 675.  Drivers approaching from the east will follow Route 675 east, Route 11 north, Route 662 west and Route 604 south back to Route 675.

(NEW) Route 681 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations.  August 17, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Lane closure for utility installation between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road) at Valley Manor Subdivision.  Estimated completion August 28.

(UPDATE) Route 715 – Pilot truck controlled lane closure for paving at various locations. August 17, noon to 5 p.m. and August 18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand cleaning paved ditches and weed eating around pipes. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

Single shoulder closures for bridge inspection of exit ramp over 1-81northbound and southbound lanes. August 19, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 243.5, northbound and southbound – Nighttime right lane closures for bridge inspection at Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) over I-81. Sunday, August 16, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

(NEW) Mile marker 245 to 246, northbound and southbound –

Shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 253 (Port Republic Road) over 1-81. August 19, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 247.5 (City of Harrisonburg), northbound and southbound – Nighttime right lane closures for bridge inspection at Route 33 (East Market Street) over I-81. Sunday, August 16, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

(NEW) Mile marker 251.1 (City of Harrisonburg) – Nighttime right lane closures, 8 p.m. each night to 4 a.m. the following mornings for bucket truck inspections of northbound on-ramp over I-81 on August 17 and northbound off-ramp over I-81 on August 18.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 33 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures over South Fork of Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. August 17 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Lane closure westbound between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) and Route 1165 (Robin Lane) for water line installation.  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 pm. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2015.

(UPDATE) Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) – Lane closures with flagger control possible for shoulder work from Route 752 to Route 612 south. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvements.  New Terrace Avenue traffic pattern began July 19. All northbound traffic will be directed down E street to Route 340. Work zone from F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street, Monday through Friday. Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 721 (Fellowship Road) – Bridge replacement 0.70 mile east of Route 11 (North Valley Pike) to 0.40 mile west of Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) with a temporary bridge and “stop and proceed” work zone. Estimated completion August 28.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 611 (Farmview Road) – Road closed August 24-28 for bridge replacement 0.70 miles south of Route 631(Hawksbill Avenue).  Detours: Southbound traffic will turn right on Route 631 (Hawksbill Avenue), left on Route 340 Business, left on Route 624 (Hawksbill Drive), left on Route 689 (Marksville Road), left on Route 689 (Ida Road) back to Route 611. Northbound traffic will turn right on Route 689 (Ida Road), right on Route 689 (Marksville Road), right on Route 624, right on Route 340 Business, right on Route 631 back to Route 611.

Route 616 (Leaksville Road) – Right and left shoulder closures.  Flagger controlled single lane closures as needed for construction of turn lanes at Luray High School. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion September 4.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Exit 264 – Closure of northbound on-ramp from Route 211 for milling and paving between 7 p.m. August 18 and 9 a.m. August 19. Detour east on Route 211 (West Lee Highway), north onto Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) and west on Route 730 (Caverns Road) to rejoin the interstate at exit 269.

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing, repairing slopes and cleaning slopes under bridges. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Exit 269 – Closure of northbound off-ramp to Route 730 for milling and paving between 7 p.m. August 19 and 9 a.m. August 20. Drivers needing to access Route 730 (Caverns Road) will detour north on I-81, east onto Route 292 (Conicville Road) and south on Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to rejoin Route 730. Northbound on-ramp from Route 730 closed from 7 p.m. August 20 to 9 a.m. August 21. Drivers needing to access northbound I-81 detour east on Route 730(Caverns Road), north onto Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) and west on Route 730 to rejoin the interstate at exit 269.

(NEW) Mile marker 273 to 275, northbound Left lane closed August 17 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on August 18 for soil testing work around the overpass for Exit 273 (Mount Jackson/Basye).

Mile marker 299, northbound and southbound at Warren county line – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

Route 609 (South Hollingsworth Road), Woodstock area – pedestrian bridge just west of roadway closed until further notice for adjacent slope repair.

Route 675 (Camp Roosevelt Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from Route 678 (Fort Valley Road) to Shenandoah/Page County Line.  7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion date August 18.

Route 758 (Seven Fountains Road, Fort Valley area) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Passage Creek, 0.7 miles from southern intersection with Route 678 (Fort Valley Road). Local traffic can access properties north of bridge by approaching from northern intersection of Routes 758/678. Estimated completion May 2016.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 300 to 301, northbound  – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection at I-81/I-66 interchange. August 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, mowing slopes and hand cleaning ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 307 to 313, northbound and southbound – Slow-roll lane closures Sunday, August 16, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. for installation of overhead utility cable.  Southbound slow roll begins at mile marker 312 near Winchester.  Northbound slow roll begins simultaneously at mile marker 307 near Stephens City. Slow-roll times are subject to change.
(NEW) Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Overnight left lane closures August 17-20 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, and August 21 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning.  Watch for trucks entering or exiting the median. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection at I-81 over Route 11. August 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound B alert for construction vehicles and related activities at exit 310 interchange and intersection with Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847), as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated  project completion May 2018.

Route 657 (Senseny Road)  – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from East Cork Street to Route 779 (Country Club Circle), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion August 31.

Route 657 (Senseny Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking from Route 807 (Meade Drive) to Route 656 (Greenwood Road), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion August 31.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) – Lane and shoulder closures over Shenandoah River and Route 622 (Swift Shoals Road) for bridge inspection.  August 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Flagger controlled lane closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for paving, shoulder work and pavement marking. Estimated completion August 21.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road, Mount Weather area) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601. Lane width reduced to 12’ and height restriction of 13’ in place.  Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion October 1.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15 – Debris removal, hand cleaning ditches, and mowing.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.  Estimated completion September 1.

Mile marker 14, eastbound and westbound – Alternating single lane closures for bridge work over Route 638, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.  Estimated completion September 1.

 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299
, northbound and southbound at Shenandoah county line – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Cedar Creek. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 25, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Lane shifts on both sides of new bridge over Gooney Creek. Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures as needed. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 625 (Happy Creek Road) – Lane closure with flagger control for bridge inspection at I-66 over Route 625. August 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 840 (Water Plant Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for repairs of I-81 bridges over Route 840.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 28, 2015.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511 and at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD(1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
