Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: Oct. 12-16

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, eastbound – Alternating lane closures as needed for paving operations.  Days and times will vary during the week, including some work on Sundays, Saturdays and overnights. Estimated completion December 1.

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for bridge sweeping Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning ditches and slopes. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching, ditching, pipe replacement and grading with flagger traffic control. Tuesday toFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation.  Tuesday to Friday,7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews trimming trees, removing debris, clearing sign areas and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets.  Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 631 (Furrs Mill Road – near Lexington city limits) – Road closed 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. October 27 for a pipe replacement between Route 11 (North Lee Highway) and Route 681 (Greenhouse Road).  Message boards in place in advance to alert motorists of closure. Detours:  From Route 11 turn onto Route 752 (Hunter Hill Road) and left onto Route 681, then back onto Route 631. From 631/681 intersection, turn onto Route 681, then right on Route 752 (Hunter Hill Road) back to Route 11. Rain date October 28.

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
Various roads
– Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, pothole repairs, tree removal, ditching, shoulder repairs and grading with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving and pavement marking from Route 606 to Route 608.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion October 14th.

Route 220 – Pavement work at various locations with flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 250 – Shoulder repairs, pipe cleaning, plant mix, pipe installation at various locations with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Lower Back Creek Road), Route 607 (Big Valley Road) and Route 631 (Rich Hills Road) – Pavement work at various locations. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Pipe installation with flagger traffic control.  Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Ditching, pipe cleaning and shoulder repairs.  Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing and litter removal, Monday through Wednesday.

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing sign areas, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.  Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 90 to 92 – Possible shoulder or lane closures overnight as part of exit 91 improvement project, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Median shoulder and right shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches, drop inlets and slopes.  Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 205.6 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing and litter removal. Monday to Thursday.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway at Route 262) – Shoulder closures and possible lane shifts on northbound and southbound lanes of Route 11 for underground utility work, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Work zone between Route 644 (Frontier Drive) and Route 1403 (Second Street).  Estimated completion October 16.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps.  Monday throughSaturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Mondaythrough Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  for installation of traffic-management system near I-64 on-ramps. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection – Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation.  Estimated completion Oct. 23, 2015.

Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) – Right lane and shoulder closures at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through October 31 for utility work.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Cold Springs Road, Greenville) – 24/7 “stop and proceed” single-lane traffic pattern for bridge widening project over Deep Pond Run.  Work zone 0.95 mile south of Route 658 (Avis Road) to 0.70 mile north of Route 662 (Greenville School Road).  Estimated completion October 22.

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2015.

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion October 16.

(NEW) Route 695 (Sugar Loaf Road , near Middlebrook) – Daytime flagger traffic control October 13 to October 28 for bridge deck replacement over tributary of Edison Creek. Work zone is 0.40 mile west of Route 700 (Bowman Springs Road) and 1.05 mile east of “dead end.”

(UPDATE) Routes 1305, 1306, 1328, 1329 and 1336 (Fishersville area) – Pilot truck and flagger controlled lane closure as needed at various locations for surface treatments. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, hand mowing and cleaning pipes.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 33 – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving and pavement marking from Route 628 to Rockingham/Greene county line.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion October 28.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30pm.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2015.

(NEW) Route 42, north (Town of Timberville) – Intermittent lane closures near the intersection of Route 617 for gas line repairs. October 14, 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 800 (American Legion Drive) – Road closed for pipe replacement on October 14 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., between Route 618 (Lone Pine Drive) and Route 1518 (Irish Path).

(NEW) Route 867 (North River Road, Mount Crawford area) –

Road closed between route 11 (South Main Street) and Route 693 (Fairview Road) for bridge and guardrail repairs. Estimated completion October 14. Detours:  Drivers approaching from Route 867/Route 11 intersection travel north on Route 11, then east on Route 257/Route 682 (Friedens Church Road), then back to Route 867.  Drivers approaching from intersection of Route 867 and Route 693 travel north on Route 867, west on Route 682/Route 257 (Friedens Church Road), and then south on Route 11 back to Route 867.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, shoulder maintenance, fence and crossover repairs. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 274.5, northbound – Overnight lane closures at various locations for shoulder stone, rumble strip installation, pavement marking and guardrail installation. Sunday, October 11, 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning. October 12 to October 15, 7 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. the following morning.

(UPDATE) Mile Marker 282.8 to 285.9, including On- and Off-ramps at Exit 283 (Woodstock), northbound – Overnight lane closures for milling, paving and guardrail work at various locations. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.  Estimated completion Oct. 16, 2015.

Mile marker 299, northbound at Warren county line – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge work over Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 6, 2015.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 678 (South Fort Valley Road) from Route 675 (intersection of Kings Crossing) to Route 675 (Camp Roosevelt Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for shoulder stone and pavement marking operations 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 14, 2015.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris, brush cutting, fence repair, shoulder maintenance, and crack sealing on ramps. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Part of exit 310 interchange project scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2015.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and related activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

(NEW) Route 1002 (Mulberry Street, Stephens City) – Road closed from Fairfax Pike (Route 277) south to Green Street for paving operations. October 13 and 14, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Detour signs will be in place.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, ditching and pothole repair.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Flagger controlled lane closures for milling operations from south of Berryville town limits to north of town limits (1.05 miles), 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Estimated completion October 12.  Flagger controlled lane closures for paving, shoulder stone and pavement marking operations continue in the same work zone, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion October 16.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Blue Ridge Mountain Road, Mount Weather area) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge deck over Route 601.  Lane width reduced to 12 feet. Work zone speed reduced to 30 mph.  Work zone is about 0.5 mile north and south of Route 605/601 intersection.  Estimated project completion October 15.

(NEW) Route 651 (Clay Hill Road – Millwood area) – Road closed 1.25 miles east of Route 255 to Route 621 (Tilthammer Mill Road) for pipe replacement, October 19 to October 30.  Detours:  Eastbound traffic will travel south on Route 255 (Bishop Meade Road) then east on Route 723 (Millwood Road) then north on Route 621 back to Route 651. Westbound traffic will travel south on Route 621 then west on Route 723 then north on Route 255 back to Route 651.  Estimated completion October 30.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) I-66/I-81 Interchange – I-66 eastbound ramp narrows as needed for bridge work Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Northbound I-81 left shoulder closed as needed Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 23.

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Estimated completion October 16.

 

INTERSTATE 81
(UPDATE) I-81/I-66 Interchange – I-81 northbound left shoulder closed as needed for bridge work Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Eastbound I-66 ramp narrows as needed Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion October 23.

Mile marker 299, northbound at Warren county line – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge deck work over Cedar Creek.  Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 6, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway, Gooney Creek area) – Daytime lane closures with flagger traffic control for paving operations from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Use caution when driving through work zone and expect delays. Estimated completion October 15, 2015.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, ditch work and pothole repairs.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
