road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.

Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westboundPothole patching.  Alternating, mobile lane closures. Wednesday andThursday, 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.


PRIMARY ROADS

Route 18 – Single lane closures 24/7 for bridge repairs over Potts Creek between Route 608 (Wolfe Road) and Route 609 (Vine Patch Road). Temporary traffic signals will control traffic. Estimated completion November 4.

Various roads – Pavement patching with mobile lane closures.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Frontage Road 199 (Frontier Lane)Watch for crews repairing paved channel along frontage road and westbound I-64 west of exit 7. Flagger controlled lane closures and right shoulder closures. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion summer 2017.

(NEW) Route 781 (Ruckers Gap Road)Pipe replacement. Road closed Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour via Route 661 south to I-64 to West Virginia.

Various roads – Pavement patching and with mobile lane closures.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 618 (Dunns Gap Road) –Road closed 1.6 miles from Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) to 2 miles from Route 646 (Meadow View) for bridge repairs over Cowardin Run.  Follow posted detours. Through October 27.

Various roads – Pavement patching and grading with mobile lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY                                                                                                                   

INTERSTATE 64

 

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Single-lane traffic through work zone. Westbound drivers use a median crossover to access the eastbound side of the interstate. After crossing the bridge, westbound drivers follow a second crossover to return to the I-64 westbound mainline. Eastbound traffic limited to the right lane. Work zone speed limit 55 miles an hour.  Estimated project completion summer 2017.

(NEW) Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Pothole patching. Alternating, mobile lane closures. Wednesday toThursday, 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 206, northbound and southbound – Pothole patching. Alternating, mobile lane closures. Wednesdayto Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 188A Off-ramp, northbound– Off-ramp closed for shoulder repairs. Monday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 190, northbound – Nighttime, single lane closures for bridge work over Maury River. Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. Estimated completion November 4.

(NEW) Mile marker 203 to 195, southbound – Utility work. Right shoulder closures Monday to Friday. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion October 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for mowing, pavement patching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore Mill Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Cedar Creek just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway).  Estimated completion late 2016.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs, pavement patching, grading, ditching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs, mowing and weed-eating guardrails with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 614 (Cowpasture Road North) – Road closed Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day for pipe replacements north of Route 250 (Highland Turnpike). Northbound detour:  West on Route 250, north on Route 654 (Doe Hill Road) and east on Route 619 (Botkin Hollow Road) to end of detour. Southbound detour: West on Route 619, south on Route 654 and east on Route 250 to end of detour.

Route 617 (Seldom Seen Road) – Mobile lane closures for Rural Rustic road project west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for pipe cleaning and shoulder repairs.Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY    

INTERSTATE 64

Mile markers 94 to 107– eastbound and westbound – Left and right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Pothole patching.  Alternating, mobile lane closures.Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Mile marker 207 to 209, northbound – Paving.  Alternating lane closures Sunday through Friday nights, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.Estimated completion early December.

(NEW) Mile marker 223 to 219, southbound – Fiber optic installation. Right shoulder closures. Monday to Friday. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Commerce Road, Staunton) – Alternating lane closures for nighttime signal repairs at northern Route 262 intersection. Wednesday 9 p.m. to Thursday 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Alternating lane closures for nighttime signal repairs at Route 262 intersection.Wednesday 9 p.m. to Thursday 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway, Verona) – Alternating lane closures as needed for nighttime signal repairs at intersections with Route 854 (Sky View Circle. Thursday 9 p.m. to Friday 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway, Staunton area) – Alternating lane closures for nighttime signal repairs at intersections with Route 262, Route 644 (Frontier Drive) and Colonial Mall entrance. Monday 9 p.m. to Tuesday 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound shoulder closure and intermittent lane closures for fiber installation from Route 857 (Captain Hizer Lane) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completionOctober 28.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Utility work. Periodic right lane and mobile lane closures. Route 687 (Railroad Avenue) and Poplar Street (Route 1112). Monday to Friday.  9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 28.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Intermittent lane closures southbound for utility work from Route 688 (Old Parkersburg Turnpike) to Sweet Spring Lane. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 28.

Route 42 (West Craig Street, Craigsville) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures for utility work between Cemetery Lane (Route 1108) and Hancock Street (Route 1104). Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion November 11.

Route 42 (Scenic Highway) – Alternating lane closures for utility work from Route 758 (George Waltons Road) to Route 760 (Bunker Hill Road). Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Churchville Avenue)Tree trimming and utility work. Shoulder closure and intermittent lane closures from Churchville Elementary School to Route 42 (Scenic Highway). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 28.

Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) – Traffic shift to temporary bridge over Whiskey Creek. Work zone speed limit is 35 miles an hour.  The work zone is just east of intersection with Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road). Estimated completion June 2017.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Alternating lane closures as needed for nighttime signal repairs at intersections with Route 613 (Spring Hill Road. Tuesday 9 p.m. to Wednesday 6 a.m.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) –South River Bride replacement.  Road closed Constitution Park and East Avenue. Through traffic detours to Broad Street (Route 250). All businesses and residences have traffic access. Estimated completion late 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 607 (Mount Solon Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures and shoulder closures as needed for intersection improvements at Route 843 (Drainage Divide Lane). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion October 28.

(NEW) Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) – Alternating lane closures as needed for nighttime signal repairs at intersection with Route 1906/901 (Lodge Lane/Mill Place Parkway). Wednesday 9 p.m. to Thursday 6 a.m.

(NEW) Route 612 – Flagger controlled single lane closures for bridge work over Lewis Creek between Route 790 and Route 789. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

(NEW) Route 612 – Flagger controlled single lane closures for bridge work over Christians Creek between Route 907 and Route 617. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

Route 612 at Route 792 (Laurel Hill Road/Indian Mound Road, Verona) – Intersection work.  Periodic single land or shoulder closures, flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Be alert for work zone construction vehicles traffic. Estimated completion spring 2017.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 641 (Fishersville Road) – Water line work. Intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) to Route 1360 (Westminster Drive). Monday to Friday. Estimated completion December 30.

Route 685 (Lehigh Road, Craigsville) – Bridge work. Little Calfpasture River. Road closed between Route 684 and Route 42. Detour in place. Estimated completion December 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 701 (Howardsville Road) – Utility work. Periodic lane and right shoulder closures from Riverheads High School to Route 613 (Old Greenville Road).  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 28.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 240 to 246, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, single lane closures as needed for bridge maintenance on various bridges. Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion November 11.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Bridge work. North River from Route 694 to one mile south of Mount Crawford.  Watch for traffic shifts, shoulder closures and flagger controlled lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Variable message boards and pavement markings direct motorists. Estimated completion July 2017.

Route 33, eastbound – Paving.  Alternating lane closures from 0.2 mile east of Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) to Route 981 (Rockingham Pike). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 4.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road) – Utility work. Periodic, alternating lane closures. Route 33 to Route 646. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 30.

Route 641 (Cave Hill Road) Bridge work. Stony Run, near McGaheysville from Route 991 (Jacob Burner Road) to Route 843 (Cemetery Road). Temporary bridge with stop-and-proceed traffic control. Estimated completion is October 28.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (north of Grove Hill) – Bridge work. South Fork Shenandoah River. Flagger traffic control, alternating lane closures. Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Estimated completion December 2016.

Route 340 – Bridge work at Cub Run.  Periodic flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work zone speed limit is 45 miles per hour. Estimated completion fall 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 642 (Stoneyman Road) – Road closed for

bridge replacement over tributary to Hawksbill Creek, and related slope work, October 24 to November 14. Work zone is located 0.2 miles east of Route 340 Business and 0.4 miles west of Route 640 (Mount Zion Road).  Detours:  From the west side continue south on Route 340 Business, then to Route 629 (Redmond Store Road) and then turn left and follow Route 629 to Route 640. Turn left and follow Route 640 to Route 641 (East Branch Road) and turn right. Follow Route 641 to Route 689 (Stonyman Road). Turn left on Route 689 and follow to the end of the detour.  From the east side follow Route 642 east to Route 689. Continue straight to Route 641 and turn right. Follow Route 641 to Route 640 and turn left. When you reach Route 629, turn right. At Route 340 Business turn right and follow to end of the detour.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion October 31.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 264 to 277, northbound – Shoulder repairs. Right mobile shoulder closures. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 264 to 299 including ramps, northbound and southbound – Nighttime pavement work. Mobile lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 279, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, alternating lane closures for maintenance on bridges over Route 185 and Stoney Creek in Edinburg area. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion December 2.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 287 to 283, southbound – Nightly alternating lane closures and shoulder closures for guardrail installation. Sunday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion November 18.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 292 to 296, northbound – Nightly alternating lane closures and left shoulder closures for guardrail replacement. Sunday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 18.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 297, northbound and southbound –Alternating shoulder closures for bridge work over Norfolk Southern Railway. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2.

(UPDATE)  Mile marker 298 to 292, southbound – Nightly alternating lane and shoulder closures for guardrail installation. Sunday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 18.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Strasburg) – Overnight flagger-controlled lane closures for Strasburg utility work.  Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 11 (Strasburg) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for paving as part of Strasburg utility work. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 185 (Stoney Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for maintenance on I-81 overpasses.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 3.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Queen Street (Route 1201, Strasburg) – Road closed between South Massanutten Street and Holiday Street for bridge replacement over Town Run. Detour in place. Estimated completion November 21.

Route 663 (Artz Road) Bridge replacement over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The road will remain open during construction of the new bridge, with flagger controlled lane closures 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion May 2018.

Various roads – Pipe cleaning and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 298 to 325 including ramps, northbound and southbound – Nighttime mobile lane closures for pavement work. October 31 to November 4, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound Paving operations. Southbound overnight, alternating lane closures Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Speed limit 60 mph through work zone. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Estimated project completion May 2017.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange Project), northbound and southbound Speed limit on Route 37 reduced to 35 mph through work zone. Newly built portion of Route 37 is open. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern change at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion spring 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange Project) – The speed limit on Route 642 is 45 miles per hour through the work zone. The newly built portion of Route 642 is now open.  Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersections with Route 37 and Route 847 (Hillandale).  Estimated project completion spring 2017.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange Project) – Newly built portion of Route 847 is open. Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion spring 2017.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – “Slow roll” lane closures as needed from West Main Street to Route 7 Business ramp and from Trapp Hill Road to the ramp for utility work over the highway. Thursday at various times between  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile Marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder repairs. Mobile shoulder closures.  Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures scheduled.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection. Temporary traffic switch for east and west lanes from 340/522 to .03 miles (A. S. Rhodes Elementary School) west of 340/522. Pavement markings, signs and traffic barrels will guide drivers through this area. Changes in effect through summer 2017 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017.  Construction of new bridge continues. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement over the Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 643 (Howellsville Road) to Route 661 (Fairground Road).  Detours:  Drivers south of the bridge will turn right on Route 643 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then to Route 638 in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn left on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) and left on Route 624 (Red Gate Road/Milldale Road) to reach the end of the detour. Drivers north of the bridge will follow Route 624 (Milldale Road/Red Gate Road) north and turn right on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn right on Route 638 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then Route 643, to reach the end of the detour.  Estimated project completion June 2018.

Various roads – Mowing and grading. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
