road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton District is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile Marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Watch for crews removing debris Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Mile marker 29 to 31 – Right shoulder closures for crews cleaning ditches, box culverts and drain pipes. Tuesday to Thursday,8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mile marker 36 to 31, westbound – Alternating lane closures for paving operations through October 15, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.


PRIMARY ROADS

Route 18 – Single lane closures 24/7 for bridge repairs over Potts Creek between Route 608 (Wolfe Road) and Route 609 (Vine Patch Road). Temporary traffic signals will control traffic. Estimated completion November 4.

(NEW) Route 60 (Clifton Forge) – Nighttime, alternating lane closures from Route 629 to Route 1405 for paving operations.Sunday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Route 220 ramp to Route 60 (Clifton Forge) – Nighttime paving of northbound and southbound ramps to Route 60.October 9 to 23, 4 p.m. to 11 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Frontage Road 199 (Frontier Lane)Watch for crews repairing paved channel along frontage road and westbound I-64 west of exit 7. Flagger traffic control lane closures and right shoulder closures. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion summer 2017.

Route 687 (Jackson River Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for paving, pavement marking and guardrail work from Route 641 to the Bath County line. Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Estimated completion October 15.

Various roads – Pavement patching and with mobile traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY                                                                                                                                    

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 220 (Sam Snead Highway, Town of Hot Springs) – Right shoulder closures and flagger controlled traffic for curb and gutter repairs from Park Lane to 1.5 miles north of Park Lane. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Various roads – Pavement patching with mobile traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 618 (Dunns Gap Road) –Road closed October 11 to 27 from Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) to Route 646 (Meadow View) for bridge repairs over Cowardin Run.  Follow posted detours.

Route 627 (Scottstown Draft Road) – 24/7 “stop and proceed” traffic control for bridge replacement over tributary of Stuart Run. Work zone is 4.8 miles east of Route 678 and 0.3 mile west of Route 629 (Deerfield Road). Estimated completion October 19.

Various roads – Pavement patching and grading with mobile controlled traffic. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.   

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY                                                                                                                   

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Watch for crews removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mile marker 48 to 50 – Right shoulder closure for crews cleaning ditches, box culverts and drain pipes. Tuesday toThursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Single-lane traffic through work zone. Westbound drivers use a median crossover to access the eastbound side of the interstate. After crossing the bridge, westbound drivers follow a second crossover to return to the I-64 westbound mainline. Eastbound traffic limited to the right lane. Work zone speed limit 55 miles an hour.  Estimated project completion summer 2017.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 205, northbound and southbound – Nighttime left lane and shoulder closures in mobile work zone for mowing operations. Monday to Saturday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Watch for crews removing debris and litter, mowing and weed-eating. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mile marker 184, southbound – Nighttime single lane closures for Buffalo Creek bridge work. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion October 14.

(NEW) Mile marker 186 to 187, northbound – Nighttime right lane and right shoulder closure for pavement repairs. 8 p.m.Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

(NEW) Exit 195 off-ramp to Route 11/Lexington, northbound – Nighttime closure for pavement repairs on northbound off-ramp.  Wednesday, 7 p.m. to Thursday 7 a.m. Detour: Exit 191
to westbound I-64, then take exit 55 and follow Route 11 north about four miles. The on-ramps from Route 11 to I-81 will remain open.

(NEW) Mile marker 201 to 200, southbound – Right shoulder closures for fiber optic installation, Monday to Friday. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 30.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile traffic control for pavement patching, mowing and brush removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.   

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore Mill Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Cedar Creek just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway).  Estimated completion late 2016.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile traffic control for shoulder repairs, pavement patching, ditching and brush removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.   

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Mountain Turnpike, Monterey) – Shoulder closures Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for sidewalk work at intersections with Wilson Avenue, Potomac River Road, Water Street, Spruce Street, Walnut Street and Mill Alley. Sidewalks in these areas will be closed to pedestrians and an accessible path will be maintained by the contractor. Estimated completionOctober 14.

Various roads – Mowing and weed-eating guardrails with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 617 (Seldom Seen Road) – Rural Rustic road project west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road).  Mobile traffic control. Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile traffic control for shoulder repairs and pipe cleaning. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.   

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY  

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Watch for crews removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile markers 94 to 107– eastbound and westbound – Left and right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237– Shoulder closures for crews removing debris and litter, weed-eating and mowing. Sundaythrough Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mile marker 219 to 221 and 225 to 227, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for crews removing cleaning ditches, box culverts, drain pipes. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 221, northbound and southbound – Nighttime lane closures as needed for mowing operations. Sunday 8 p.m. through Wednesday morning 7 a.m.

Mile marker 207 to 209, northbound – Left or right lane closures Sunday through Friday nights, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for paving, drainage work, guardrail and rumble strip installation. Estimated completion early December.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 225, southbound – Right shoulder closures for fiber optic installation, Monday to Friday. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway, Greenville) – Flagger controlled traffic for milling and paving between Poor Creek Lane and Almo Chapel Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.  Estimated completion October 12.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Shoulder closure and intermittent lane closures as needed for fiber installation from Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) to Verona Elementary School.

Estimated completion October 21.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Right shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures for utility work from Route 254 (Buffalo Gap) to town of Craigsville. Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion October 14.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Right shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 687 and Poplar Street (Route 1112). Monday to Friday.  9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 21.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Right shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures for utility work from Route 688 (Old Parkersburg Turnpike) to Route 811 (Augusta Springs Road) Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion October 21.

Route 42 (Scenic Highway) – Intermittent lane closures and shoulder closures as needed for utility work from Route 613 (Spring Hill Road) to Route 728 (Stover Shop Road). Monday to Friday. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

(NEW) Route 250 – Nighttime, mobile, alternating lane closures for signal repairs at these intersections – On Monday: Route 285/Route 805 and Route 608/Route 9035. On Tuesday:  Route 1472, Route 642 and 1100ft from the intersection. On Wednesday: Route 640, Route 358. On Thursday:  Route 638 and the I-81 SB off ramp at Route 250. Monday to Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) – Traffic pattern shift to new temporary bridge over Whiskey Creek begins Monday. Work zone speed limit is 25 miles an hour.  The work zone is just east of intersection with Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road). This traffic pattern will be in place through July 2017.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Route 250 (Churchville Avenue)Shoulder closure and intermittent lane closures as needed for fiber installation from Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road/Churchville Elementary School) to Route 42 (Scenic Highway). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) – Road closed between Constitution Park and East Avenue for replacement of South River bridge. Through traffic will use Broad Street (Route 250) as detour route. Local traffic has access to all businesses and residences throughout the project. Estimated completion late 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 601 (Estaline Valley Road) – Alternating lane closures for pavement patching from Route 682 (Troxel Gap Road) to Rockbridge County line. 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion October 14.

(NEW) Route 607 (Mount Solon Road) – Flagger controlled traffic and shoulder closures as needed for sight improvements at intersection with Route 843 (Drainage Divide Lane). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Route 612 at Route 792 (Laurel Hill Road/Indian Mound Road, Verona) – Lane closures with flagger traffic control are possible Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. During other times, motorists should be alert for shoulder closures and construction vehicles moving in and out of the work zone.  Estimated completion spring 2017.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

Route 641 (Fishersville Road) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures from Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) to Route 1360 (Westminster Drive) for water line upgrades. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion December 30.

Route 685 (Lehigh Road, Craigsville) – Road closed for bridge replacement over Little Calfpasture River between Route 684 and Route 42. Detour in place. Estimated completion late 2016.

Route 701 (Howardsville Road) – Right shoulder closure and intermittent lane  closures for fiber installation from Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) to Route 697 (Old Greenville Road).  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 21.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, Overnight mowing operations with right shoulder closures. Sunday to Tuesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 242, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures for bridge work, seven nights a week, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion October 14.

Mile marker 245, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures for bridge work, seven nights a week, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion October 14.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Replacement of North River bridge. Watch for traffic shifts, shoulder closures and flagger controlled lane closures, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work zone from Route 694 to one mile south of Mount Crawford. Variable message boards and pavement markings direct motorists. Estimated completion July 2017.

(NEW) Route 33, eastbound – Lane closures for paving operations and shoulder work from 0.2 mile east of Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) to Route 681 (Rockingham Pike). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 4

Route 33 – Flagger controlled traffic for bridge repairs over Muddy Creek (Hinton). Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 14.

(NEW) Route 42 (Main Street, Broadway) – Closed between Turner Avenue and Lee Street for special event on Saturday, October 15, from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Detour in place.

Route 42 (Main Street, Broadway) – Flagger traffic control for curb and gutter work between Mason Street and 5th Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion October 14.

(UPDATE) Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Grading and paving operations in area of Route 340 (East Side Highway) intersection. Traffic limited to one lane. Expect delays Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated project completion October 21.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Grading and paving operations at the intersection of Route 253/659 (Port Republic Road). Traffic limited to one lane. Expect delays Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion October 21.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 602 (East Point Road) – Alternating lane closure as needed for utility work between Route 33 and Route 646. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 30.

Route 641 (Cave Hill Road) Replacement of Stony Run bridge near McGaheysville between Route 991 (Jacob Burner Road) and Route 843 (Cemetery Road). Temporary bridge serves as 24/7 detour with a stop-and-proceed traffic pattern. Estimated completion is October 28.

(UPDATE) Route 659 (Port Republic Road) – Grading and paving at intersection with Route 340 (East Side Highway). Traffic limited to one lane. Motorists should expect delays Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated project completion October 21.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (north of Grove Hill) – Flagger controlled, alternating lane closures for bridge repairs over South Fork Shenandoah River. Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Estimated completion December 2016.

Route 340 – Intermittent flagging operations for replacement of bridge and approaches at Cub Run. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work zone speed limit is 45 miles per hour. Estimated completion fall 2017.

Various roads/locations – Shoulder closures as needed for nighttime inspection of signs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Estimated completion October 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pavement patching and mowing at various locations. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion October 31.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 279, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, alternating lane closures for maintenance on bridges over Route 185 and Stoney Creek in Edinburg area.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion October 16.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 287 to 283, southbound – Nightly alternating lane closures for guardrail replacement and pavement work. Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Estimated completion October 28.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 292 to 296, northbound – Nightly alternating lane closures for guardrail replacement and pavement work. Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Estimated completion October 28.

Mile marker 297, northbound and southbound –Alternating shoulder closures for bridge work over Norfolk Southern Railway. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 28.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 298 to 292, southbound – Nightly alternating lane closures for guardrail replacement and pavement work. Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Estimated completion October 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (North Massanutten Street, Strasburg) – Overnight flagger-controlled lane closures for Strasburg utility work.  Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 11 (East King Street, Strasburg) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for paving as part of Strasburg utility work. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 185 (Stoney Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for maintenance on I-81 overpasses.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 16.

Various roads/locations – Shoulder closures as needed for nighttime inspection of signs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Estimated completion October 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Queen Street (Route 1201, Strasburg) – Road closed between South Massanutten Street and Holiday Street for bridge replacement over Town Run. Detour in place. Estimated completion November 2016

Route 663 (Artz Road) Bridge replacement over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The road will remain open during construction of the new bridge, with flagger controlled traffic 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion May 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 678 (Fort Valley Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for paving operations and pavement markings from Route 758 (Seven Fountains Road) to Warren County line. Monday to Friday; possible Saturdays.  Estimated completion October 14.

Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile Marker 302 to 303, northbound and southbound – Daytime right lane closure for inspection of bridge over Route 627. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound Overnight lane closures for paving operations as follows: Northbound left lane Monday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Southbound right lane Wednesday and Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 mph. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Estimated project completion fall 2017.

(NEW) Mile Marker 311.8 to 312, northbound and southbound – Daytime right lane closure for inspection of bridge over Route 644. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange Project), northbound and southbound Speed limit on Route 37 reduced to 35 mph through work zone. Newly built portion of Route 37 is open. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern change at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion fall 2017.

Various roads/locations – Shoulder closures as needed for nighttime inspection of signs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Estimated completion October 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange Project) – The speed limit on Route 642 is 45 miles per hour through the work zone. The newly built portion of Route 642 is now open.  Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersections with Route 37 and Route 847 (Hillandale).  Estimated project completion fall 2017.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange Project) – Newly built portion of Route 847 is open. Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion fall 2017.

Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 Business (Main Street, Berryville) – Brief closure between Station Road and Dorsey Street for special event, Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Various roads/locations – Shoulder closures as needed for nighttime inspection of signs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Estimated completion October 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile Marker 10 to 9, westbound – Overnight right shoulder closures for replacement of traffic management equipment. Monday to Friday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures scheduled.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection. Temporary traffic switch for east and west lanes from 340/522 to .03 miles (A. S. Rhodes Elementary School) west of 340/522. Pavement markings, signs and traffic barrels will guide drivers through this area. Changes in effect through summer 2017 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017.  Construction of new bridge continues. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Various roads/locations – Shoulder closures as needed for nighttime inspection of signs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Estimated completion October 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement over the Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 643 (Howellsville Road) to Route 661 (Fairground Road).  Detours:  Drivers south of the bridge will turn right on Route 643 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then to Route 638 in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn left on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) and left on Route 624 (Red Gate Road/Milldale Road) to reach the end of the detour. Drivers north of the bridge will follow Route 624 (Milldale Road/Red Gate Road) north and turn right on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn right on Route 638 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then Route 643, to reach the end of the detour.  Estimated project completion June 2018.

Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) – Expansion of Linden Park & Ride lot. Watch for increased truck traffic and intermittent flagging operations for excavation work, stone placement and paving operations. Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion October 2016.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
