Staunton District Traffic Alerts: Nov. 23-27

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 (WV state line) to 2, eastbound – Alternating lane closures including exit 1 as needed for milling and paving operations. Variable days and times during the week. Estimated completion December 1.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris November  23, 27, 30 andDecember 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Cleaning ditches and slopes November 25 and December 2.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Utility tree trimming with flagger control during daylight hours. November 23-25, then back to regular schedule of Monday to Friday.

Route 269 – Utility tree trimming with flagger control during daylight hours. November 23-25, then back to regular schedule of Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Single, alternating lane closures between Route 1212 (Karnes Road) and Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) for soil test borings. December 1 to 4. Shoulder restrictions on Garland Road.  Rich Patch Road will be closed north of the intersection with Selma-Low Moor Road near Rich Patch Road and Garland Road.  Flaggers will control traffic during daylight hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control November 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m. and November 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Normal work schedule resumes November 30, Monday to Friday,8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger control during daylight hours. November 23-25, then back to regular schedule of Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pipe replacement and ditching with flagger traffic control. November 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m. and November 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Normal work schedule resumes November 30, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pipe replacement, shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control. Grading with a mobile operation November 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and November 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Normal work schedule resumes November 30, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris November 23, 27, 30 and December 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Fall brush mowing November 25, 27, 30 and December 1. Cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets November 25 and December 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will follow detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris November 23, 24, 27, 30 and December 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Fall brush mowing November 23-25, 27, 30 andDecember 1- 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Clearing sign areas, trimming trees, and cleaning paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets November 25 and December 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming with flagger control during daylight hours. November 23-25, then back to regular schedule of Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Shoulder closure for sidewalk replacement and pipe installation from Alleghany Avenue to Beech Avenue November 30 to December 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 251 (Collierstown Road) – Road closed for slope work from Route 677 (Kygers Hill Road) to Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail). Traffic can use Route 677 and Route 612 as a detour. Estimated completion November 24.

(NEW) Route 252 – Utility tree trimming with flagger control during daylight hours. November 23-25, then back to regular schedule of Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 501 (Magnolia Avenue, Buena Vista) – Shoulder closures for sidewalk replacement northbound from 17th Street to 18th Street, and southbound from 9th Street to Dickenson Avenue November 23 to 25, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control November 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and November 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Normal work schedule resumes November 30, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) 10th Street (City of Buena Vista) – Shoulder closure for sidewalk replacement and pipe installation from Magnolia Avenue to Glen Maury Park entrance November 30 to December 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
Various roads
– Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control November 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and November 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Normal work schedule resumes November 30, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for pothole patching. Sunday, November 22, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.  Be alert for crews removing debris November 23, 27, 30 and December 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Clearing signs November 25 and December 2, and cleaning paved ditches and inlets December 1-3. , 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 90 to 92, eastbound and westbound – Possible shoulder or lane closures overnight as part of exit 91 improvement project, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures November 23 and 24 and back to regular schedule Monday through Saturday the following week, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated project completion December 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for pothole patching November 22 and 23, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Be alert for crews removing debris November 23, 24, 27, 30 and December 4.  Clearing sign areas November 25 and December 2 and cleaning paved ditches, drop inlets and slopes November 24, 25 and December 1-3.  Replacement of object markers on guardrails between mile makers 205 and 221 November 23-25, 27, 30 and December 1, 2, and 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24 and until noon November 25.  Work resumes November 30, Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps.  Shoulder closures November 23 and 24 and back to regular schedule Monday through Saturday the following week, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.

 (UPDATE) Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Shoulder closures November 23 and 24 and back to regular schedule Monday through Saturday the following week, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.

Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) –Shoulder closures for utility work at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road) through November 24 at 1 p.m. Work resumes on normal schedule November 30.  Estimated completion December 31.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion December 15, 2015.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps.  Shoulder closures November 23 and 24 and back to regular schedule Monday through Saturday the following week, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion December 2015.

Route 635 (Augusta Farms Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for improvements at Route 608/635 intersection. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion December 15, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  November 23 and 24 regular hours and until 1 p.m. November 25.  Work resumes on regular schedule November 30. Estimated completion December 11.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24 and until noon November 25.  Work resumes November 30, Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal November 23, 25, 27, 30 and December 4. Brush cutting and chipping, November 24 and December 1.  Hand mowing, December 2 and 3. 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Right should closures November 23 to 27 as needed for installation of signs in preparation of bridge replacement project over North River.  Work zone from just north of Route 694 to 0.39 miles north of Route 694.  Estimated bridge replacement project completion July 2017.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24 and until noon November 25.  Work resumes November 30, Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Single lane closure as needed for shoulder widening and paving from Route 628 (Beldor Road) to 2.25 miles west of Route 628, westbound lane only November 23, 24, and morning of November 25.  Work resumes Monday, November 30 with estimated completion December 3.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation November 22-23, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and November 24 until 1 p.m.  Work resumes November 30 through December 1, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24 and until noon November 25.  Work resumes November 30, Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled, intermittent right shoulder and northbound lane closures for installation of water lines November 22 and 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and November 24 until 1 p.m.  Work resumes November 30 through December 4, 9 a.m. 5 p.m.  Work zone is between 0.3 miles south of Route 988 (Early Road) and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road).  Estimated completion December 31.

(UPDATE) Foxcroft Subdivision – Sagefield Drive (Route 1059), Foxcroft Drive (Route 1060), Houndchase Lane (Route 1061), Archer Lane (Route 1062) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving operations.  November 23 to noon November 25.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours November 23, 24 and until noon November 25.  Work resumes Work resumes November 30, Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, – Debris removal November 23, 25, 27, 30 and December 4. Brush cutting November 24 and December 1-3. 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Right lane closures for bridge repairs over Smith Creek November 23 and 24, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and November 24. 7 a.m. to noon.  Work resumes November 30, noon to 6 p.m. and December 1 to 3, 7 a.m. 6 p.m.  Work zone located from 0.8 mile to Route 1002 to 0.1 mile to Route 620.  Estimated December 17.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24, and morning of 25.  Return to regular Monday to Friday hours November 30 to December 4.

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting November 23, 24 and the morning of November 25.  Regular Monday through Friday schedule will resume November 30.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, Debris removal November 23, 25, 27, 30 and December 4. Pavement work November 23, 24, 30 and December 1-3. Fence repair November 24, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

Mile marker 308 to 312, northbound and southbound – Reduced speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project, estimated for May 2018.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Estimated completion December 18.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours November 23, 24, and morning of 25.  Return to regular Monday to Friday hours November 30 to December 4.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15 – Debris removal November 23, 25, 27, 30 and December 4. Cleaning ditches December 1-3. 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

INTERSTATE 81
No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through December 2015 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. November 23, 24, and morning of 25.  Return to regular Monday to Friday hours November 30 to December 4.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
