Staunton District Traffic Alerts: Nov. 21-25

newspaperThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton District is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound Nighttime, mobile lane closures for pothole patching. November 21, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pavement patching with mobile lane closures.  November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Frontage Road 199 (Frontier Lane)Road closed to through traffic. Right shoulder closures as crews repair paved channel along frontage road and westbound I-64 west of exit 7. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion summer 2017.

Various roads – Pavement patching with mobile lane closures.  November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY                                                                                                                                    

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 (Sam Snead Highway) – Periodic, 15 minute road closures between 10 a.m. and noon on November 30 for survey work. Work zone from Route 608 (Tinkertown Road) to Route 684 (Incubator Hollow Road).

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting, ditching and grading with mobile lane closures. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY                                                                                                                   

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Single-lane traffic through work zone. Westbound drivers use a median crossover to access the eastbound side of the interstate. After crossing the bridge, westbound drivers follow a second crossover to return to the I-64 westbound mainline. Eastbound traffic limited to the right lane. Work zone speed limit 55 miles an hour.  Estimated project completion summer 2017.

(NEW) Mile marker 57 to 42 including I-81 On-Ramps, eastbound and westbound – Mobile lane closures for pothole patching. November 21, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.Shoulder closures for fall brush cleaning and mowing. November 30 to December 3, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 173 to 206, northbound and southbound – Mobile lane closures for pothole patching.  November 21, 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  Shoulder closures for fall brush cleaning and mowing.  November 30 to December 3, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 190, southbound – Nighttime, alternating lane closures for bridge work. November 14 to December 2, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for mowing, pothole repairs and brush cutting. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, grading, ditching and brush cutting. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs and mowing. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 617 (Seldom Seen Road) – Mobile lane closures for Rural Rustic road project west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile lane closures for ditching, mowing and brush cutting. November 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  November 28 to December 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY    

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for pothole patching. November 22, midnight to 3 a.m.

Mile markers 94 to 107– eastbound and westbound – Left and right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.


INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 206 to 236, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for pothole patching. November 22, midnight to 3 a.m.

Mile marker 207 to 209, northbound – Overnight mobile lane closures Sunday through Friday nights for paving and related work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion December 9.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 218 to 214, southbound – Right shoulder closures for utility work. November 14 to December 2, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Scenic Highway) – Alternating lane closures for utility work from Route 758 (George Waltons Road) to Route 760 (Bunker Hill Road). November 18 to December 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (West Craig Street, Craigsville) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures for utility work between Cemetery Lane (Route 1108) and Hancock Street (Route 1104). November 21 to December 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) – Alternating lane closures for utility work from Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion December 15.

Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) – Traffic shift to temporary bridge over Whiskey Creek. Work zone speed limit is 35 miles an hour.  Work zone just east of Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road). Estimated completion June 2017.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) – Mobile, alternating lane closures  for utility work from Staunton city limits to Buffalo Gap. November 28 to December 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) – South River bridge replacement.  Road closed between Constitution Park and East Avenue. Through traffic detours to Broad Street (Route 250). All businesses and residences have traffic access. Estimated completion late 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 607 (Mt. Solon Road) – Lane closures as needed November 28 to December 2, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Intersection improvements at Route 843 (Drainage Divide).

Route 612 at Route 792 (Laurel Hill Road/Indian Mound Road, Verona) – Periodic lane and shoulder closures with flagger traffic control for intersection work. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Be alert for construction vehicle traffic. Estimated completion spring 2017.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 641 (Fishersville Road) – Water line work with intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) to Route 1360 (Westminster Drive). Monday to Friday. Estimated completion December 30.

Route 685 (Lehigh Road, Craigsville) – Bridge work over Little Calfpasture River. Road closed between Route 684 and Route 42. Detour in place. Estimated completion December 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 701 (Howardsville Road) – Mobile, alternating lane closure as needed for utility work from Riverheads High School to Route 613 (Old Greenville Road). November 28 to December 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 1306 (Birchwood Road, Fishersville) – Road closed November 28 to December 7 for pipe replacement at Route 250 intersection.  Follow posted detour.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Bridge work from Route 727 (Airport Road) to Route 694 (Contentment Lane) over North River. Traffic shifts onto portion of new bridge. Shoulder closures and flagger controlled lane closures as needed. Estimated completion July 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road) – Alternating lane closure for utility work from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 646 (Bloomer Springs Road), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion December 2.

(NEW) Route 719 (Layman Trestle Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations from Route 925 (Keezletown Road) to Route 718 (Old Furnace Road). Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 22.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Bridge work at Cub Run. Periodic flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work zone speed limit is 45 miles per hour. Estimated completion September 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 275 to 277, northbound – Overnight right lane closure for paving operations.  8 p.m. November 20 to 7 a.m. November 21.

(NEW) Mile marker 279 to 283, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for paving operations. 8 p.m. November 21 to 7 a.m. November 22.

Mile marker 297, northbound and southbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge work over Norfolk Southern Railway. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (South Main Street, Town of Woodstock) – Lane closures as needed for parade, December 2, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

(NEW) Route 211 (West Old Cross Road) – Right lane and shoulder closures for underpass repairs at I-81 (New Market exit area). November 21 to December 9, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Queen Street (Route 1201, Strasburg) – Road closed between South Massanutten Street and Holiday Street for bridge replacement over Town Run. Detour in place. Estimated completion November 21.

Route 663 (Artz Road) Bridge replacement over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The road will remain open during construction of the new bridge, with flagger controlled lane closures 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion May 2018.

(NEW) Various roads – Closures as needed for grading. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday, except Thanksgiving holiday hours.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 300 to 325, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, lane closures for debris pickup. Mobile operation.  8 p.m. November 20 to 6 a.m. November 21.

Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound Road widening project. Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Speed limit 60 mph through work zone. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Estimated project completion May 2017.

(NEW) Exit 310 ramps – New northbound on- and off-ramps open November 28. Watch for traffic pattern changes and new traffic signal at top of ramps. Flashing signals begin November 16 and change to full function signals November 28.

(NEW) Mile marker 315 to 316, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, alternating lane closures for bridge inspection of Route 7 overpass. 8 p.m. November 2 to 7 a.m. November 23.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange Project), northbound and southbound Watch for traffic pattern changes as new ramps are completed at northbound Route 37/Route 11 intersection and northbound I-81 interchange. Flashing signals at Route 37/I-81 northbound change to full function signals November 28.  Flashing signals at Route 37/11 interchange change to full function signals November 30. Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Work zone speed limit 35 mph. Estimated project completion May 2017.

(NEW) Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) – Two lanes close and traffic shift to center lane for utility work from Route 1367 (Costello Drive) to Route 785 (Longcroft Road) from 7 p.m. November 30 to 6 a.m. December 1, and from 7 p.m. December 1 to 6 a.m. December 2.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange Project) – The speed limit on Route 642 is 45 miles per hour through the work zone. The newly built portion of Route 642 is now open.  Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersections with Route 37 and Route 847 (Hillandale).  Estimated project completion May 2017.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange Project) – Newly built portion of Route 847 is open. Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion May 2017.

(NEW) Various roads – Mobile lane closures for paving operations. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday, except Thanksgiving holiday hours.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(NEW) Mile marker 1 to 3, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane closures for bridge inspections at Route 843 (Sulphur Spring Road) and Route 637 (North River Road). November 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures scheduled.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection. Temporary traffic switch for east and west lanes from 340/522 to .03 miles (A. S. Rhodes Elementary School) west of 340/522. Pavement markings, signs and traffic barrels will guide drivers through this area. Changes in effect through summer 2017 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement over the Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 643 (Howellsville Road) to Route 661 (Fairground Road).  Detours:  Drivers south of the bridge will turn right on Route 643 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then to Route 638 in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn left on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) and left on Route 624 (Red Gate Road/Milldale Road) to reach the end of the detour. Drivers north of the bridge will follow Route 624 (Milldale Road/Red Gate Road) north and turn right on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn right on Route 638 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then Route 643, to reach the end of the detour.  Estimated project completion June 2018.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
