Staunton District Traffic Alerts: May 7-11

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 29 to 36 – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and line painting. Monday – Friday, Through May 18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 60 (Midland Trail/Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking and shoulder work from Covington city limits to I-64 interchange at exit 10 (Callaghan). May 5-18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Morris Hill Road) – Road closed April 30 to June 7 for bridge work over Rucker Hollow Stream and Dry Branch tributary. Residents will have access to properties on either side of the bridges. Through traffic will follow posted detours.
(NEW) Route 636 (Morgan Drive) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 42 to dead end. May11 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

(NEW) Route 646 (Blueberry Hill Lane) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 42 to dead end. May11 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 651(Steels Lane) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 60 (Midland Trail) to dead end. May10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 661(Johnsons Creek Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 781 (Rucker Gap Road) to Route 724 (Cartwright Lane). May 9 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 661(Ogle Creek Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Bradley Spring Road (FR 200) to Route 781 (Rucker Gap Road). May 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 691(Second Avenue) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 774 (Staunton Road) to dead end. May10 from 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

(NEW) Route 705 (Meadowdale Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from dead end to Route 42 to dead end. May 11 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 712 (Dunlap Beach Lane) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 600 (Rumsey Road) to FR 202. May 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 774 (Staunton Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting in area of Route 691 (Second Avenue). May 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and pothole repairs at various locations with mobile work zones. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

No lane closures reported.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 179 to 183, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign maintenance at multiple locations. Through May18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 188 to 194, northbound and southbound – Short duration “slow rolls” to control traffic on Sunday, May 6, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for utility work over the interstate.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Flagger-controlled alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 715 (Sunnybrook Road) to Route 716 (Mount Atlas Road). May 7-11 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 39 (Maury River Road) – Flagger-controlled alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 623 (Farmhouse Road) to Route 601 (Millard Burke Memorial Highway). May 7-18 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zone for mowing operations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 789 (Country Club Road, Lexington) – Road closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7-11 between Route 251 (Thornhill Road/Collierstown Road) and Route 1030 (New Cameron Drive) for drainage work. Follow posted detours during work hours.

Various roads – Mobile work zones for mowing operations and grading. Flagger traffic control for grading, ditching, patching and pipe replacement. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Ravens Run Road) – Stop and proceed traffic and flaggers as needed on weekdays for bridge work near intersection with Route 220 (Jackson River Road). April 27-May 31.

Route 640 (Meadowdale Road/Blue Grass Valley Road) – Mobile work zone for patching operations at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic for slope repairs south of Route 609 (Burnsville Road). May 7-11 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 98, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, alternating lane closures for bridge work over Route 250. Through May 11 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Short duration alternating lane closures for utility work just east of Staunton, between I-81 and Route 792 (Sangers Lane). May 8 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Mobile lane closures for paving between Route 642 (Barrenridge Road) and Route 839 (Eureka Mill Road). May 8 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance between Meadow Run Court (Route 1307) and Orr Drive. May 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through spring 2018 to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 631 (Ladd Road) – Eastbound lane closed from Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) to West Drive (Route 1729) for turn-lane construction. Through May 8 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastbound traffic follows short detour.

(NEW) Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Mobile work zone for sign installations at various locations from Route 647 (Hammond Lane) to Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road). Through May 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 730 (Stokesville Road) – Road closed May 5-11 for bridge painting over North River. Follow posted detour.

(NEW) Route 730 (North River Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 718 (Stokesville Road) to Rockingham/Augusta county line. May 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 730 (North River Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for spot leveling operations from Route 756 (Bunkerhill Road) to Rockingham County line. Through May 11 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

​Route 731 (Natural Chimneys Road) – Lane closures as needed for painting of North River bridge in Mount Solon area. Through May 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 755 (Vance Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 730 (North River Road) to Augusta/Rockingham county line. May 7-8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 756 (Buck Hill Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting at Route 759 (Oak Hill School Road). May 7 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 759 (Oak Hill School Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 756 (Buck Hill Road) to Route 761 (Bull Mountain Road). May 7 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) ​Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) – Road closed between east and west intersections of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) for box culvert installation. May 8 to June 5 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Follow posted detours.

(NEW) Route 876 (Cattleman Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 707 (Trimbles Mill Road) to Route 703 (Hewitt Road). May 7-11 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 1040 (Chinquapin Drive) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Waynesboro city limit to dead end May 6-7 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 6-10 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Valley Pike) – Shoulder closures and flagging as needed for pipe repairs in the area of Route 721 (Fellowship Road). Through May 14 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

(NEW) Route 704 (Osceola Springs Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Route 711 (Grassy Creek Road) to Route 253 (Port Republic Road). May 7-11 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(NEW) Route 750 (Nazarene Church Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 731 (Community Center Road) to Route 613 (Spring Creek Road). May 8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 755 (Vance Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Rockingham/Augusta county line to Route 750 (Nazarene Church Road). May 8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 821 (Millers Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 755 (Vance Road) to Rockingham/Augusta county line. May 8 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 867 (North River Road) – Eastbound shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Pleasant Run through May 11 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Watch for construction traffic entering/leaving work zone.

(NEW) Route 1314 (Countryside Drive) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Walnut Lane to Route 257 (Ottobine Road). May 8-14 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 1315 (Cricket Lane) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 1314 (Countryside Drive) to dead end. May 7-11 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through May 31.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through August 31.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 263 to 299, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 6-10 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through May 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Turkey Run. Work zone is between Route 754 (Laurel Hill Way) and Route 714 (Turkey Run Road). Through May 18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 720 (Wissler Road) – Closed to through traffic at Meems Bottom covered bridge just west of Route 11.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 310 to 311, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge inspections at Route 37 overpass. Exits will remain open. May 9 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester city limit, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 31.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line through May 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 277 (Fairfax Pike) – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from (Route 726) Lakeview circle to Ridings Lane. May 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 522 – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from Route 646 (Reardon Road) to Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway). May 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from Warren County line and Route 669 (Highland Corners Road). May 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, mobile work zone for vegetation management. May 6-10 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 11-13, eastbound and westbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Dismal Hollow Road. May 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County and Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion fall 2018.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Overnight guardrail replacement from Page/Warren county line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive). Through May 31, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic through June 2018 for paving and bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 1. Through trucks over 30 feet in length prohibited between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 661 (Fairground Road).

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
