Staunton District Traffic Alert: May 14-18

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 7 to 21, eastbound and westbound – Overnight mobile lane closures for bridge sweeping. May 14-18 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Mile marker 29 to 36, eastbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and line painting. Monday – Friday through May 18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 35 to 39, eastbound – Right lane closures for pavement marking. May 12-June 1from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 60 (Midland Trail/Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking and shoulder work from Covington city limits to I-64 interchange at exit 10 (Callaghan). Through May 18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Morris Hill Road) – Road closed through June 7 for bridge work over Rucker Hollow Stream and Dry Branch tributary. Residents will have access to properties on either side of the bridges. Through traffic will follow posted detours.
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Patching, brush cutting and pothole repairs at various locations with mobile work zones. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 42 to 57, eastbound– Single lane closures as needed for guardrail maintenance. May 14-18 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 206, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 13-17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 179 to 183, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign maintenance at multiple locations. Through May18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 188 to 194, northbound and southbound – Short duration “slow rolls” to control traffic on Sunday, May 13, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for utility work over the interstate.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for paving operations from Route 715 (Sunnybrook Road) to Route 716 (Mount Atlas Road). Through June 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 39 (Maury River Road) – Flagger-controlled alternating lane closures for paving operations from Route 623 (Farmhouse Road) to Route 601 (Millard Burke Memorial Highway). Through June 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile work zone for mowing operations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Mobile work zones for mowing operations and grading. Flagger traffic control for grading, ditching, patching and pipe replacement. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 608 (Ravens Run Road) – Stop and proceed traffic and flaggers as needed on weekdays for bridge work near intersection with Route 220 (Jackson River Road). April 27-May 31.

Route 640 (Meadowdale Road/Blue Grass Valley Road) – Mobile work zone for patching operations at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic for slope repairs south of Route 609 (Burnsville Road). Through June 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 13-17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 13-17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 228 to 229, northbound and southbound – Overnight, single lane closures for bridge repairs over former Chesapeake Western Railway spur. May 9 to June 1 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through spring 2018 to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

(UPDATE) Route 730 (Stokesville Road) – Road closed May 12-18 for bridge painting over North River. Follow posted detour.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) – Road closed between east and west intersections of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) for box culvert installation. Through June 5 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Follow posted detours.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. May 13-17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Augusta/Rockingham county line north to Mount Crawford town limits. May 16-25 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 11 (Valley Pike) – Shoulder closures and flagging as needed for pipe repairs in the area of Route 721 (Fellowship Road). Through May 14 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures for pipe repairs between Elkton and Greene County line. May 14-31 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(NEW) Route 259 (Lee Street, Broadway) – Intermittent lane closures and right shoulder closure for commercial entrance construction between Holly Hill Street and Route 42 (North Main Street). May 14-15 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

(NEW) Route 603 (Blose Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 607 (Red Brush Road) to Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). May 16-22 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 625 (Fox Mountain Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 759 (Newtown Road) to Page County line. May 15-21 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 626 (Sandy Bottom Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment at Route 628 (Beldor Road). May 16 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(NEW) Route 819 (Yankeetown Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) to dead end. May 14 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 824 (Bennett Run Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting near Route 865 (Bergton Road/Dovesville Road). May 14 from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 856 (Park Way) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340 (East Side Highway) to dead end. May 17-23 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 865 (Dovesville Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 826 (Criders Road) to Route 824 (Bennett Run Road). May 14 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 867 (North River Road, Mount Crawford area) – Road closed for bridge replacement over Pleasant Run May 14 through fall 2018. Follow posted detours.

(NEW) Route 884 (Homestead Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340 (East Side Highway) to dead end. May 17-23 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 891 (Mount Paran Church Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 759 (Newtown Road) to dead end. May 15-21 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Harrisonburg city limit to Route 763 (Mount Clinton Pike). May 15 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 917 (Red Hill Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from dead end to Route 259. May 14 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 988 (Scholars Road) – 24/7 “Stop & Proceed” road closure May 23-July 6 for bridge work at Pleasant Run. Work zone between Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) and Route 989 (Valley Branch Road).

Route 1314 (Countryside Drive) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Walnut Lane to Route 257 (Ottobine Road). Through 14 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday through May 31 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end. Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 298 to 299, northbound and southbound – Overnight, alternating lane and shoulder closures for inspection of bridge over Norfolk Southern railway. May 18-19 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Traffic pattern changes begin May 14 for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County: Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Through mid-June. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. Through May 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Turkey Run. Work zone is between Route 754 (Laurel Hill Way) and Route 714 (Turkey Run Road). Through May 18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 622 (Minebank Road) – Flagger traffic control for Cedar Creek bridge repairs at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. May 14-25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m

Route 720 (Wissler Road) – Closed to through traffic at Meems Bottom covered bridge just west of Route 11.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 308 to 310, northbound – Right shoulder closure for inspection of Opequon Creek bridge. May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 312 to 322, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance at various locations. May 14-25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester city limit, Monday-Friday through May 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(NEW) Route 37 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures for inspection of bridges over Route 651. May 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. Through May 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 277 (Fairfax Pike) – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from (Route 726) Lakeview circle to Ridings Lane. Through May 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 522 – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from Route 646 (Reardon Road) to Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway). Through May 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 664 (Jordan Springs Road) – Road closed for box culvert replacement at Route 1330 (Riverdale Circle) May 14-25. Follow posted detours.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Right shoulder closure for sign maintenance from Warren County line and Route 669 (Highland Corners Road). Through May 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(NEW) Mile marker 6 to 8, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign maintenance at multiple locations. May 14-25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 11-12, eastbound and westbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Manassas Run. May 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 11-13, eastbound and westbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Dismal Hollow Road. May 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Traffic pattern change May 14 for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County: Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge. Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic through June 2018 for paving and bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 1. Through trucks over 30 feet in length prohibited between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 661 (Fairground Road).

(NEW) Route 655 (Country Club Road) – Right shoulder closures for sign maintenance at FR 731 (Patterson Drive). May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
