Split decision in Waynesboro: Sam Hostetter, Bobby Henderson win City Council races

waynesboroSam Hostetter swept to victory in Ward D, and Bobby Henderson won a contested three-way race to represent Ward C, in the two Waynesboro City Council races on the ballot in Tuesday’s city elections.

Hostetter easily outpolled Richard Burcaw in the Ward D race, receiving 74.8 percent of the vote, by a 991-vote margin, among the 1,993 votes cast in the race.

Henderson, who was backed by former Vice Mayor Frank Lucente in the Ward C race, received 45.8 percent of the vote, defeating Chanda McGuffin (32 percent) and two-term incumbent Jeff Freeman (22.3 percent).

There was one contested race on the School Board docket, in the At-Large ward, won by Erika Smith, who received 69.2 percent of the vote to defeat Liza Fulton-Lawson, who garnered 30.3 percent of the vote.
