Probably everyone heard the word menopause, but not even every woman knows what this stage in her life is. It is the period when the reproductive phase ends and a new stage begins – elegant maturity. The menopausal restructuring of the body is a natural process, and it does not change life for the better or for the worse. Everything goes as usual: first, under the influence of hormones, a girl becomes a woman, getting the opportunity to become a mother. Over time, reproductive function ceases to be a priority for the body and the level of sex hormones begins to decline. The reproductive period may end, but the woman will still remain herself and may enjoy life.

What is menopause?

The menopausal period is divided into three phases:

  • perimenopause;
  • menopause;
  • postmenopause.

Menopause is the complete cessation of menstruation in women’s life. When does menopause start? It is only possible to determine retrospectively when the change has occurred, after 12 months without menstruation.

What age does menopause start?

The age when menopause occurs ranges from 48 to 55 years. It is very important to remember that the hormonal balance in a woman’s body begins to reconstruct several years before climacteric changes begin. The process is called perimenopause. At this stage, the menstrual cycle becomes irregular, the blood loss can become more or less intense, occur more often or less than usual, until it completely stops. With the onset of menopause, hormonal changes also do not stop, continuing for about 6-8 years – this period is called postmenopause.

Like any other period, menopause has its own difficulties and advantages, as well as risks requiring a responsible approach. The cessation of menstruation is only one of many other menopause symptoms. There are also a number of uncomfortable sensations that can occur in women.
