SMAC, Waynesboro Y swimmer to make second appearance in world championships

ymca-jessie arnoldJessie Arnold, a member of the SMAC swim team at the Waynesboro Family YMCA, will make her second appearance in the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championship.

The Sept. 5-7 world championship event will be held in Balatonfüred, Hungary.

Arnold, 17, a senior at Spotswood High School in Rockingham County, competed in the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championship in Canada in 2012, finishing 11th in the 5K race at the event with a time of 1:00:39.9, 34.3 seconds off the winning time.

Arnold was one of two swimmers representing Team USA in the 14- to 16-year-old girls division.

More than 130 male and female swimmers from 31 countries took part in the 2012 event.
