The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club (SMAC) swim team at the Waynesboro YMCA turned a tidy $1,655 profit running the concession stand at the Night of the Superstars event put on by Top Rope Pro Wrestling Saturday night at Waynesboro High School.
“It was crazy busy, but it was good for the kids to see how it is to work,” said Robert Rule, a SMAC swim parent who coordinated the concessions at the event.
The group had six workers on site at the event running the concession area at all times and had several others running back and forth to Walmart to stock up on supplies.
The sales for the night included 95 Domino’s pizzas, 100 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, popcorn, baked goods and “tons of drinks,” Rule said.
The profit margin was more than 60 percent above what Top Rope President Chris Graham had projected for SMAC in the pre-show budget.
“We want to thank SMAC and the YMCA for working with us on this event,” Graham said. “They did a great job, and we’ve talked with them about doing all of our future events, as their schedule allows. We’re happy to be able to support SMAC by having them work our event to raise money. Now we expect them to get back out into the pool to bring the Waynesboro Y some more national championships.”
