Shenandoah Valley Art CenterThe Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of July, is continuing to exhibit the 30th Annual Member’s Judged Exhibition.

The exhibit features about 75 works from our local and regional member artists. The exhibit was judged by internationally known local artist Pat Cook. An opening reception and awards ceremony was held in June.  Awards presented:  first place-Susan Crave Rosen, second place-Lynn Hilton Conyers, third place- Donna Kincaid. Honorable Mentions: Peg Sheridan, Bruce Fortier, Jessie Change McCoy, Karen Rosasco, Tom Evans, Howard Search, and Carol Varner.

The Penny Cabell Memorial Watercolor Award was presented to Joe Phillips. The art center is proud that it is a community based organization that showcases and supports its talented members with this annual exhibition. Shenandoah Valley Art Center seeks to increase the visibility of the visual arts through creating and fostering exhibits, programs, fellowship, and economic and creative opportunities for artists of all ages and abilities. We have galleries, artist’s studios, classrooms, educational opportunities with professional artists, and an artisan gift shop in our fully restored historic building in downtown Waynesboro.

Please come and enjoy the exhibits and consider joining us on our journey to promote high-quality artistic programming, creative opportunities for the community, and to nurture your love of ART!

Featured in the Gift Shop this month are the abstract acrylics of artist, Karen Rosasco. In her current series of work, she is using a variety of watermedia in layers to achieve a highly textural and dynamic presentation. After 40 years of painting realistic interpretations of landscapes, florals and architectural themes, her new concentration is on the relationships between the basic elements of art as a more exciting personal approach to art.  She feels that methods, materials and themes change, but a consistently good composition and design hold the viewer’s eye.
