Shenandoah National Park reopens Dickey Ridge area trails to visitors with dogs

shenandoah national parkThe Dickey Ridge area in the North District of Shenandoah National Park near the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center at mile 4.6 Skyline Drive has been reopened to visitors with dogs.

“Over the past four weeks, park staff documented no further reports of dog-bear incidents or persistent bear behavior in the Dickey Ridge area since the temporary dog closure went into effect on August 8, 2016. As a result, we are lifting the Temporary Dog Closure in the Dickey Ridge area,” said wildlife biologist Rolf Gubler stated.

Visitors are reminded to keep their dogs on a six-foot leash.
