Attorney-general candidate Steve Shannon launched the third television ad of his campaign today. The ad highlights Shannon’s experience as a prosecutor and his opponent’s weak record on drunk driving legislation.
“Drunk driving poses a serious threat to the safety of Virginians,” Shannon said. “With over 900 alcohol-related accidents every month, it’s a problem we can’t ignore. When I was a state prosecutor, I won the convictions of hundreds of drunk drivers, and when I’m attorney general, I will implement an aggressive plan to crack down on this dangerous behavior.
“My opponent has not released a single plan to combat drunk driving in Virginia, and in the state Senate he has consistently voted against tougher penalties for drunk drivers. Virginia needs better public safety leadership than that.”
Shannon, a former Fairfax County prosecutor, has prosecuted hundreds of cases involving drugs, drunk driving, gang violence, and Internet crimes against children. In 2003, Shannon was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, where he helped to pass numerous public safety initiatives. He has received the endorsements of the Police Benevolent Association and over 40 other Virginia law enforcement organizations and leaders.
The ad, titled “Might Not Remember,” went on air at 6 a.m. today.
