mark warnerU.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), incoming Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in the 115th Congress, released the following statement on President-Elect Donald J. Trump’s selection of Rep. Mike Pompeo to head the Central Intelligence Agency:

“I congratulate Congressman Pompeo on his nomination. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Pompeo has a firsthand appreciation for Congress’ responsibility to provide vigilant oversight of our nation’s intelligence activities, and I look forward to learning more about his views on national security and intelligence policy and his vision for the CIA.

“As incoming Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I will fulfill the Committee’s primary obligation: to conduct vigorous, and bipartisan, oversight of the nation’s intelligence agencies, and to ensure that their work is effective, efficient, and legal, and adheres to America’s principles and international obligations.”
