salem red soxFor the third time in as many days, the Salem Red Sox scored a one-run victory over the Winston-Salem Dash, 3-2 in 10 innings Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.

The game was scoreless into the third inning, when the Red Sox (6-4) finally broke through against Dash (3-7) starting pitcher Blair Walters. Andrew Benintendi doubled to bring home Mauricio Dubon, who drew a two-out walk, then Benintendi scored from second base on an infield hit by Nick Longhi to push the lead to 2-0.

Pitching with the lead, Red Sox starter Ben Taylor was terrific, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings, while striking out five, and allowing just three hits.

Salem had chances to pad the lead against Walters, but the Winston-Salem lefty was able to work through trouble, stranding five runners on base in his 5.0 innings of work. Taylor left in line for the win, but wound up with a no decision.

Jamie Callahan came in out of the bullpen, but ceded an unearned run in the sixth inning after an error by Franklin Guzman, then allowed another tally in the seventh on a bases loaded walk as the Dash tied the game up.

The game remained tied into extra innings, but the Red Sox scored in the top of the 10th inning. Yoan Moncada rocked a double to the opposite field then quickly came home on a Dubon single off Kelvis Valerio.

Adam Lau (2-0) tossed a perfect 10th, finishing off three scoreless innings to earn the win. Valerio (0-2) received the loss by allowing the run in the top half of the frame.

Salem goes for the sweep Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series with the Dash. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm. Lefty Dedgar Jimenez (0-0, 4.50) makes his second start of the season against Spencer Adams (1-0, 1.80) of the Dash.  Follow along with all the action on the Salem Red Sox Baseball Network.
