road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation continues its work on the Route 647 (McMullen Mill Road) bridge in Greene County, with two closures planned to complete work on the rehabilitation project.

  • 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11 to 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 for paving the bridge deck and approaches.
  • 9 a.m. to midnight Monday, Aug. 18 for removal of the pedestrian bridge that provides temporary access over the South River.

Since there will be no vehicular access past the bridge during the closures, VDOT will provide a shuttle service for residents. VDOT is also coordinating with first responders to ensure no disruptions to emergency services while the road is closed.

The Route 647 bridge is located 0.1 mile west of Route 637 (South River Road) in Stanardsville and spans the South River. According to a 2008 traffic count, 220 vehicles use Route 647 daily.
