Right lane of Route 250 Bypass closed west of Route 29/250 interchange

road-work-headerThe right lane of the Route 250 Bypass westbound is closed from the Route 29 (Emmet Street) entrance ramp approximately one-quarter mile west toward Barracks Road.

The recent heavy rains have soaked the soil below the roadway and right shoulder area, causing the soil to shift toward the excavated area. The lane was closed this afternoon after that movement was detected.

Materials engineers from the Virginia Department of Transportation have evaluated the situation and determined that the right lane should remain closed until the area can be stabilized and the lane can be safely reopened. That stabilization work is under way but the lane will remain closed until Thursday morning when the situation will be reevaluated.

The Route 29/250 interchange improvement project is adding an additional southbound lane on Emmet Street from just south of Hydraulic Road through the Route 250 Bypass interchange. A second lane on the Bypass entrance ramp and an additional westbound lane between the ramp and the Barracks Road exit are also included in the project. For more information about the project visit the Route 29/250 interchange project page on theRoute 29 Solutions website.
