The importance of retaining customers

Contributors

customersWith hard economic times, it is more important than ever to retain the existing customers that you have. Not only that, but you also have to act to keep them happy and encourage them to continue shopping with you, instead of going elsewhere. It is much too easy for businesses to become complacent about valued and repetitive customers, holding the belief that they will just simply always be there. However, this is not always how it works out. Just like keeping up with the online timesheet of your employees is, so is making sure your customers are happy.

The good news is that there are several things that you can do to keep you existing customers. The most important of these things is to realize that they are your highest priority. Their business matters and it is important to provide exceptional quality to these individuals.

Some good methods that you can implement to help and retain existing customers include:

Keep In Touch

This means in a variety of methods including email, phone and face to face meetings. Ask your current clients and customers how you are doing and what you can do to improve. Feedback can give you helpful insight to provide excellent quality of services.

Continually Plan

Think of ways that you can offer added value to your current customers. What is it that your customers need in the long term? The fact is that it is just not enough to sit back and do the bare minimum, you have to be proactive constantly and think of new ways that you can help them. The fact is that they will appreciate this effort and thank you by providing continued business and commitment to you and your brand.

Provide Extra

You need to have something to offer to your customers that your competitors do not have. This will add value to your product or service and help to hinder the ability for your customers to be lured away by your competitors. For this you will have to think about what you offer and how you can improve your offering to your customers. A little creativity is necessary for this step.

Make it Easy

You need to make working with you not only easy, but convenient for your customers. This will apply to all the points of your business from contacting you and placing an order. Remember the website is a huge interaction point between your customers and you. You should ensure that it is regularly updated and meaningful so that they will continue to return to you for what you offer.

You should keep in mind that in most cases, the business that you receive will be from existing customers, rather than new ones. You need to be proactive in thinking about ways to grow and maintain these relationships in order to reap the rewards that are offered.
