wscThe public hearing for the proposed FY15 Augusta County budget, including a 5-cent increase in real estate taxes, was held on April 16.

There were approximately 70 individuals in attendance, 7 of which (10%) were representing VPAS. VPAS Board of Directors member Ann Walker spoke of her volunteer involvement which started as a Transportation for the Elderly and Disabled (TED driver). Waynesboro Senior Center (WSC) member Gary Alexander explained how he initially started coming to the Senior Center, but was then pleased to find out how many other services VPAS offers, including TED which helps him get to his doctor appointments. wsc member Joyce Henderson shared how the Senior Center has helped her come out of depression.

Supporting our speakers, were SAW Regional Director Janice Gentry, Ann’s husband, and wsc Local Council member Jean Anne Boland and her husband. At the conclusion of the hearing when each Board of Supervisors member offered their thoughts, marshall pattie congratulated Joyce on her success battling depression and david karaffa spoke of his year serving on the VPAS SAW Region local councils, how many services VPAS offers, and encouraged everyone in attendance to learn more about VPAS services. It was great to be acknowledged in this way.
