Davey Hardesty made a game-high 14-0 tackles including four for loss as the Bridgewater defense battled successfully against several short fields until RMC scored twice in the final 17 minutes of the contest. Fellow senior Andrew Donafrio punted 10 times for an average of 40.6 yards without a touchback.

The Yellow Jackets led 7-0 at the half after a tight opening 30 minutes.

A 19-yard Tre Frederick rush from midfield late in the first quarter was the first time either side had made it past the opposition 48-yard line. A few plays later, he broke a tackle to the right side and took it 20 yards for a 7-0 RMC lead.

The Eagles couldn’t respond as they lost a total of 30 yards on two consecutive plays following the score. Jay Scroggins was chased back towards his goalline and flagged for intentional grounding, but the ball was spotted at the one yard line, sparing Bridgewater a safety.

Randolph-Macon couldn’t take advantage of the excellent field position, as Zac Hoy made a nice catch in the corner of the end zone but stepped out of bounds. The Yellow Jackets missed a 30-yard field goal to keep it a one-score game.

Scroggins had scrambled for one first down on the first possession of the game. The Eagles had 4th-and-1 across midfield and lined up to go for it, but jumped offsides and had to punt.

With 3:12 left in the second quarter RMC went for it on fourth down from the BC 34, and senior JP Utz came up with a sack to get the ball back.

Chance Morris made a hard third down hit in the third quarter; Randolph-Macon went for it on fourth and picked it up, but on the next play Tyler Miller forced a fumble that was recovered by Hardesty.

The dam finally broke late in the third quarter as Sean McDonald made a great catch in double coverage on 3rd-and-20 down to the 2-yard line. Frederick carried it in on the next play for a 14-0 lead.

Owen Ritter finished with 102 receiving yards for Randolph-Macon and caught the final touchdown of the day from Joseph Vairo. Michael Farry led the RMC defense with 12 tackles and a sack.

Bridgewater falls to 2-3, 1-1 ODAC and will look to rebound in conference play at home next Saturday night vs. rival Shenandoah. Randolph-Macon remains undefeated at 5-0, 2-0.
