vpasheader0311The Medicare Open Enrollment period is Oct. 15-Dec. 7. If you have questions about which Part D drug plans or Medicare Advantage plans will be available in our local area for 2016, how to compare their costs and benefits, and would like assistance with enrollment, Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) is here to help.

Also, if you are new to Medicare and want information about Medigap supplemental insurance and which drug plan is best for you, a VPAS Counselor can assist you in making choices to meet your needs.  The Insurance Counselors at VPAS are state-certified through the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP), part of a nationwide network of health insurance assistance programs. VICAP Counselors are not associated with any insurance company and do not sell insurance products.  They are able to provide unbiased and confidential information to help you make informed choices. Counselors are trained to assist older adults, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers in understanding and comparing Medicare plans. There is no charge for insurance counseling services.

Amy Adkins Taylor will present information about Medicare and answer your questions at the Highland Senior Luncheon,  Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at The Highland Inn. The luncheon will begin at 11 AMwith lunch served at 11:15 AM.  Lunch will be sponsored by Southerncare Hospice Inc.  and is free to attendees.

The Medicare program will begin at Noon.  Amy and Ashley Arbogast, Highland County VICAP counselor, will provide individual insurance counseling after the luncheon until 2 PM or by appointment.
