Pulitzer Prize-winning poet to speak at Bridgewater College May 18

bridgewater collegeGregory Pardlo, who won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, will speak at Bridgewater College May 18 at 8 p.m. in Cole Hall as part of the Bridgewater College International Poetry Festival.

An American poet, writer and professor, Pardlo’s collection, Digest, printed by Four Way Books in New York City, received the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Digest also was an Editor’s Choice in Poetry for Shelf Unbound 2016, a nominee for the 2015 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, the recipient of an honorable mention for the Foreword Reviews’ 2014 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award in Poetry and was nominated for the 46th NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Poetry.

Pardlo’s first collection, Totem, was selected by Brenda Hillman for the APR/Honickman Price in 2007.

Pardlo has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
He is a faculty member of the master of fine arts program in creative writing at Rutgers University-Camden. He lives with his family in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The program is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate students.
