The Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Augusta has promoted Cynthia Pritchard to the position of CEO.
Pritchard previously served as the executive director. This promotion was effective July 1, 2013. The promotion decision was made by the board based on the scope of leadership Pritchard has provided to the organization in both external growth and internal systems.
Pritchard joined the United Way of Greater Augusta in August of 2009. During her 4 year tenure the organization has grown in both its fundraising and depth of programming in the community. The United Way funding campaign has grown by 54% in the last 4 years in some of the most difficult economic times. The depth of programming has increased with the addition of regional volunteer center, expansion of Stuff the Bus with donations increasing by over 400 percent in four years, Day of Caring expansion –engaging 5 percent the number of volunteers in 4 years, new veteran’s recognition event-providing information to veteran’s about services in the community, bringing the
Corporate Cup event back to companies in the region, the launch of a regional financial stability initiative in the community, and training curriculums non-profits in the community. In addition to the community based growth United Way of Greater Augusta has taken on a new technology tools using interactive website, social media, electronic funding application and electronic newsletter.
Pritchard also serves as an adjunct professor at Blue Ridge Community College.
Pritchard is engaged in the community serving on the Staunton Rotary Board, Leadership Council Shenandoah Valley Smart Beginnings (early childhood collaborative), Chamber of Commerce ambassador, Communications Chair for the Association of Fundraising Professionals and numerous committees and groups focusing on human services in the areas of education, income and health. Pritchard is currently the Senior National Librarian for the Children of the American Revolution and the vice chairman Eastern Division of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Prior to taking this position Pritchard has served in several management positions, in both the non-profit and for-profit community. She most recently was the pperations manager of Workforce Plus in Tallahassee, Fla., which was a regional office for the Department of Labor, and the operations manager for the Medicaid Call Center for the State of Florida.
She went to Florida after spending time in Virginia as the director of programs and Services for the Multiple Sclerosis Society covering the 51 counties of Western Virginia. Cynthia was a program designer, professional educator, and also served as the lead in public policy for MS in Virginia including key roles in two pieces of legislation and a statewide policy change. She came to Virginia the first time after spending the first 40 years of her life in Pennsylvania,
