Opening Statement: I think this Miami team is really, really good. If you look at them defensively, they’re maybe the best defensive team we’ve played and we’ve played Alabama. Offensively, they lost their running back, but normally they have one in the wings waiting to become a star. Their offensive line is one of the best, most athletic ones we have faced. They have great wide receivers who have great height and speed which is really typical of Miami. They are well coached and we certainly have our work cut out for us.

frank-beamer-ndBeamer on turnovers: I think the good part about us is that we are close. If you take five plays out of the game, it’s a totally different ball game. If you’re close you can get there. It’s something we’ve already done. We’ve taken good care of the football, we’ve punted well and played good defense. We’ve done the necessary things and we have to get back to it.

Beamer on Thomas starting: He’s absolutely the QB. He gives us a chance to win, and there is no question in our mind that he’s the guy.

Beamer on Thomas getting a series off: I haven’t thought about it. He’s the quarterback. He’s a tough guy, smart guy and a competitive guy. Some days things are better than others. As far as him being our QB, that’s not a question.

Beamer on Miami: I see great players and talented kids. I see a balanced offense and a defense that up front is like Alabama but quicker. Their linebackers are very good and they’re secondary as well. They are a very good team.

Beamer on Thomas’ critics: He’s a smart guy. I don’t think smart guys listen to outside people. He listens to people who can change their direction and that’s their teammates and their coaches.

Beamer on Miami sanctions: I sent Al a note a couple of weeks ago when their article was in USA Today. He got through that and made the program better and I told him that too.

Beamer on playing in Miami: It’s a night game on ESPN. They are extremely well coached. We’ve got quite a challenge here.

Beamer on running game: It hurts when you’re not consistent in running the football. It definitely makes it tougher. We’re going to continue to work and continue to get better. Our throwing game is better now.

Beamer on Thomas running: I think anytime you can be at second and five is a lot better than being second and 10. It makes a big difference for a quarterback.

Beamer on Fuller and Faycson: They didn’t feel like they were 100 percent and hopefully those two guys will be back this week.
