waynesboro2editsThe National Weather Service is projecting the South River to crest in Waynesboro Saturday well below flood stage.

The NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service is forecasting the river to crest at its intersection with Lyndhurst Road near the Waynesboro YMCA at 7.6 feet.

The river is at flood stage at that location at 9.5 feet.

As of 5 p.m. Friday, the river was at 5 feet. Additional heavy rain forecast overnight is expected to push the river to the 7.6-foot mark early Saturday morning and remain at that level most of the day on Saturday.

Rain showers are forecast to continue Saturday and Sunday, but the river is expected to pull back to around 6 feet by 5 p.m. Sunday.
