Miami blanks Washington behind Fernandez, Stanton

washington nationalsJose Fernandez outdueled Tanner Roark, aided by a Giancarlo Stanton solo homer, in a 1-0 Miami win over Washington on Tuesday.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the NL East-leading Nationals (88-63).

Fernandez (16-8, 2.86 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) struck out 12 in eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits.

Roark (15-9, 2.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) made the one mistake, the sixth-inning solo shot by Stanton (27). He allowed a run on three hits in seven innings, striking out five and walking three.
