bridgewater eaglesFreshman Leo Alcantara scored a goal to open the second half and that proved to be enough early Saturday evening as the Eagles edged Stevenson 1-0 in a non-conference men’s soccer contest.

Alcantara scored the unassisted goal, his second goal of the season, less than two minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie.

The host Mustangs held a slight edge in play in the opening half with an 8-5 edge in totals shots.

The second half, however, was controlled more by the Eagles as they outshot the Mustangs by an 11-3 margin in the final 45 minutes.

Bridgewater keeper Mark Davis finished with seven saves to record his fourth shutout of the season. Stevenson keeper Michael Tringali also made seven saves.

The Eagles, now 3-1-2 overall, return to action Wednesday evening when they make the short trip to Harrisonburg to open ODAC play against rival Eastern Mennonite. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
